    DIY vocal booth help

Great ideas everyone, thank you! My house is an open-concept, so while I have a larger room - hardwood floors, but oddly shaped rectangle with a hexagonal? room off of that. It happens to be my living room, so any room treatment would have to be able to put up and take down after I finish...

    DIY vocal booth help

I have a Rode NT1a, but it is currently not functioning and I need to send it away to Rode for repairs :( . I bought it used and wish I'd forked over the extra for new. Anyways, I also have a Sennheiser G3 mic that I use for singing live that I could use. I do like how it complements my voice...

    DIY vocal booth help

I know there's information here somewhere about making your own vocal booth, but I couldn't find it in a search. My current studio is 11x12 - basically an extra bedroom of the house. Wood flooring, one window (no curtains at this point), no wall treatments, and 10' ceilings I think. Voice is...

    Best Choir VST

Thanks. Now I just need to invest in a computer that's strong enough to handle these VSTs. Man, they're hogs!

To sing or not to sing?

OK, just so you know, I'm an opera singer, and I've been teaching voice for like 20 years. So I've heard it all. In all honesty, you don't need to be a great singer to do metal. If you want to learn to do it, you can build the muscles needed to sing properly, and learn how to use it effectively...

    please rate my voice

Dark is when you sing with a lowered larynx. If you place your fingers on your Adam's apple (the lump on your throat) and then swallow, the lump (your larynx) goes up. Also note that when you are swallowing, no air can pass through your windpipe when you swallow. Now try yawning, and feel the...

    Asthmatic Singers

Oh yes, I totally believe this is a problem as well. However, it happens with organic as well. I bought organic wheat berries and made flour from them. From learning more about the ketogenic diet and how that has helped me tremendously, I'm more inclined to believe that we don't need carbs...

    please rate my voice

Very Johnny Cashy! I like it :) A couple of things I noticed: when you sing "ghetto" you do a very aspirated "t". While great for classical singing, I think it stands out because the rest is a much more laid-back and casual diction. So you want to do it more like "geddo" instead (same for...

    Asthmatic Singers

Excellent advice. My father was an opera singer, however, and his asthma did still plague him. I firmly believe that if he made diet changes he would have been able to manage much better. But certainly his training helped him overcome a great deal. As far as what diet changes to make, that's...

    Asthmatic Singers

It's really tough, because steroids are terrible for the voice, as are inhalers. I don't have asthma anymore, but I had mild asthma due to allergies. I changed my diet and fixed that, but at the time I was taking Claritin every day to help. My father was a singer and had terrible asthma, and...

Looking for advice on vocal technique, recording and mixing

Coming late to the discussion, and I don't have much to offer by way of mixing, but I hear some things in your vocal technique that are causing the pitchiness in some places. Basically, you are using only half of your voice to sing with, and you need to have both registers equally strong. You...

    Best Choir VST

I'm looking to get a choir VST. I want a large, classical choir sound, and I want to be able to input words. I don't really have a budget set, so I'm willing to spend more to get what I need and not have to upgrade in 6 months. So far, all that I have seen is EW Symphonic Choirs - which happens...

Best bang for your buck: Orchestral Percussion, Strings, and Brass VSTs?

I'm looking for suggestions on VSTs for classical music for percussion (timpani, bass drum, gong, etc.), strings, and brass (nothing jazzy or funky). I can't spend thousands of dollars here, but I'm willing to spend up to $200 each. I know the more you spend the better you will get, but looking...

    Cordless vocal mic recommendations

Current gear: Roland Cube, with android Tablet hooked up to it to play tracks, and running an old Audio Technica mic (probably less than $75 purchase at the time). So nowhere to go but up! I am thinking I'll forgo the mic upgrade though, since I am doing a lot of operatic stuff and it's not...

    Cordless vocal mic recommendations

So turns out the guys on Sound on Sound recommend a better PA system rather than upgrading mics right now. Really, I need both, but not sure I want to spend all that money at once! I do have to spend money before the end of the year, though, or I'll be handing it over to Uncle Sam. :(

    Cordless vocal mic recommendations

Ya, I had no intention of using the Rode in live performances. I'm checking into the Line6 V55 though, looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Cordless vocal mic recommendations

Thanks for the info, DaveI I will definitely check those out. What cordless mics would you recommend that have a flatter frequency response?

    Cordless vocal mic recommendations

I've recently started singing opera at restaurants, and while my voice carries, since I'm singing with tracks, and talk a lot in between, I do need a mic. I have sung with the SM58s before, but since that boosts around the 3-5 kHz area, where opera singers focus a lot of energy, it actually ends...

Which microphone should I get for this type of voice here?

I'm no expert by any means, but I think your mic sounds fine. The problem is you need a pop screen, which is a relatively much cheaper fix than a new mic, and even with a new mic you'd want one.
