The Black lion upgrade seems interesting. Is it worth the $1200 I would spend to send in all 3 of my units and not be able to work for a week or two while its gone.

I give a vote on the HD 280, the AKG works nicely as well but I love my HD 280s and have used them in plenty of applications, half of the time being FoH work. The amount of isolation you get is quite nice.

One of my favorite mics I picked up for five bucks at a garage sale. Its and EV R6, sounds really bad but gives a cool effect and works nicely paired with a 57 on a guitar cab.

That sounds about right although I'm running a soundtracs MRX 32(came before the topaz) and it runs post fader for the tape outs but What's it hurt to try? if theres a feedback loop just cut your moniters.

If you are recording digitalally you should be recording at about -15 db so that you have headroom for mixing. If you record too hot all you're going to be doign while mixing is pulling down the faders which lessens the quality of the recording.

Go with the 57. You can track a good deal of instruments with it and even track vocals.

I've been using the Audix D6 on kick and bass cab for around two months nowand im pretty happy with it. I've used the Beta 52 in the past and its a pretty awesome mic and I've heard great things recorded with a D112 never used one though.

I make a point to do so while setting mics, throughout the tracking process and durring mixing. I check phase using Polarity Inversion as well as mono on my console. And durring intense mixes I'll even bring out the Old M-Audio DX4 using one speaker and a crappy set of Jensen home stereo speakers.

The PCMIA cards cost roughly 60 dollars and are well worth it. I use one with a Mackie Onyx 400F for locational recordings. As for getting a mixer over an interface I don't think that would be quite a great idea. I would recomend instead to upgrade your interface. Whats you're spending budget?

Seeing as though know one has asked it yet. Why a mixer? Why not a rack interface or something. You can get some decent 2 channel USB interfaces and the firewire interfaces would blow them out of the water.

I would highly recomend the Blue Baby Bottle. That mic is amazing for its price infact I prefer its sound over that of a U87.

I'm currently running the ASP 8s and I love these things. I can mix on them all day without ear fatigue and they run really smoothly and can deliver a nice low flat response durring a mix session or a loud in your face sound for clients.

I've gotten pretty good recordings on several sources out of the Shure KSM 27

I've used the f10s in the past in live sound. I have no clue how they hold up in the studio but they sounded pretty nice for the price. (run with Hosa cabeling, to a Neutrik snake into a Mackie 24 channel 4 buss mixer)
