    Phantom power?

Yeah, I've been searching for that info for awhile now. My POS Behringer mixer only puts out 23v phantom power, and I'm curious what the limitations of substandard voltage are. I'd be interested to hear from someone that knows what they're doing.

    Phantom power?

Rolls makes a phantom power box. Sometimes you can find em on EBay for <$20. Also, Harvey gave some instructions on how to build one from stuff you might have around the house awhile back.

    Motherboard recommendations

I've got an ABIT KR7A-133 and I've had no problems with it. I run a Delta 1010 with n-Track on it. If you're going to go with a VIA chipset based board, which tend to be the fastest AMD boards, get one based on the KT266A chipset, or possibly the new KT333. Stay away from the KT133 and 133A...

    23v Phantom Power?

Skippy, it's the MXB1002. It's only been out for a few months I think. I got it because it has the ability to run on two 9v batteries, which I thought might be cool for doing some field recording with a portable MiniDisc recorder.

    23v Phantom Power?

Quote: I'm no pro for DAMN sure, but my guess is that 23v won't matter much for most mics in an already less than perfect environment but if you hook up multiple condensors your mics will feel the drain. Now that you mention it, the hiss did seem more prominant when I was running the ECM8000...

    23v Phantom Power?

Hmmm... I guess my computer is just too noisy then. Do you have any idea what happens when phantom power is insufficient?

    23v Phantom Power?

Believe me, I'd like to, but funds dictate that I have to live with it for awhile. By the way Chessrock, I figured out that it was Chessparov that I was confusing you with. So I guess I'm not quite as dumb as I thought. An easy mistake I guess.

    23v Phantom Power?

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me about the disadvantages of phantom power with too low voltage. I'm the (proud?) owner of a Behringer mixer, that I bought awhile ago without researching enough. I just discovered the other day that it only supplies 23v phantom power! I use it with...

More or just the right amount....

Basslord, For what it's worth, I just built a system couple weeks ago, and it's been rock solid so far. Here's some handy tips: I'm running an Abit motherboard based on the VIA kt266a chipset, and it hasn't given me any problems with my Delta 1010. If you're going with an Athlon CPU, I'd...

    Behringer B-1

Hey Harvey, speaking of studio tan, did you work on any of FZ's recordings?

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

    Behringer B-1

...but not before I get this jab in: Okay, so you're a studio tanned dickweed that wouldn't know his ass from a hole in the ground? Okay, now I'm done! I love you guys, really I do!

    Behringer B-1

OKAY OKAY OKAY It was a case of mistaken identity. Ya don't have to rub it in!!! By the way Chessrock, you're not the only one who thinks Harvey is a redneck dickweed who wouldn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. It's okay.

Those little Rolls mini mic preamps...

...and here I was going to quit posting before I stick my foot in my mouth again. I used those Rolls preamps once in a band I was in to record a little demo on MiniDisc. I couldn't complain about the quality, but their reputation isn't very good I think. I'm pretty sure they advertise 48v...

    Fernadez guitars

I've got an early '90s Fernandes bass that I've been treated very well by. I've heard that the built the late '80s early '90s MIJ Fenders, which are known for good quality.

Buying a new mic this weekend

HOLY CRAP CHESSROCK!!! I had you completely confused with someone else. I'm very sorry. Oh, and Gidge, I wasn't trying to insult. It was just a funny image to me... Gidge: staunch defender of the v67 and wielder of the Pacifica. I don't know... I probably should start smoking weed again...

Buying a new mic this weekend

I speak only for myself, but since I was the last person to post something negative about chessrock, and alot of people seem to think he is being unfairly attacked, I feel like I should clarify: I don't blame chessrock for Harvey's decision not to post product evaluations here anymore. I just...

Buying a new mic this weekend

Hey Harvey, I don't post here much, but I've been reading for a long time. I just wanted to express my sympathies and my appreciation for what you do here. I'm dissapointed that you won't be posting reviews here anymore for the same reasons Cordura mentioned, but I also agree that...
