Keep in mind that I'm a total amateur at this, and my monitoring system here at work is a $20 pair of Sony headphones.
First off, I don't think that the clips that you posted sound all that bad. To my untrained ears, it sounds to me like your problem may lie in the EQ settings on your amp...
I have a Behringer board (MXB1002), and I just got a DMP3. As soon as I have a little free time, I will post some comparison clips. Can anyone tell me how to put 'em up somewhere for free?
I've only had a chance to try it out for a few minutes, but it seems quite a bit cleaner to me. I don't...
To expand a little on what Tom said (and with the disclaimer that I'm not an amp tech), a tube amp distorts gradually the more you turn it up, whereas a solid state amp begins to clip at a certain point.
Tube distortion can be pleasing to the ear. Transistor clipping sounds like fried ass...
I'm looking to get a pair of 'phones for monitoring. Since I will be using them while tracking vocals, I want to make sure that bleed through is not a problem. I can get a deal on AKGs for just over wholesale, but I haven't been able to find any with a sealed design. Does anyone know if they...
I believe the Peavey VMP-2 is the lowest priced true tube design available at the moment. It's about $5-700.
I think I heard Bellari makes one as well. Don't know much about that one.
Don't be afraid of solid state though.:)
Seeyuh!
Hey EleKtriKaz, welcome to the board.
I was looking into these a while ago too, and asked about them here.
One thing you may or may not know about these and most other inexpensive "tube" preamps is that they use the tube only to color the sound, instead of being part of the amplification...
Hey Sean, were you the guy that did that experiment? Where you posted images of the wave files to show how they went slightly out of synch? I couldn't find it in the archives, but it sounds like it was.
If so, I just wanted to tell you I enjoyed the hell out of that thread. It was a great...
Okay, I was going to drop some really poor taste SPAM humor, but I will refrain.
Thanks for clearing that up Alan. I appreciate the time that you spent here.
Unfortunately, I can't join you guys over at recording.org because I'm a cheap bastard. Best of luck to you all though. :)
I didn't really think they were. :) I was just poking fun at myself mostly. That has happened to me many times.
Good job on your mastering experiment too. I really thought that B had a more professional sound. You could make out more of the subtleties in the performance. Mix A was a...
For some reason, every time I post in a thread, the person that started it comes in and says "This thread stinks."
Maybe I am just an A-Hole?
I didn't think it sucked. I just really appreciate good vocal harmonies, and I like to hear them as naturally as possible.
I listened to these at work. That means I heard 'em on a pair of $10 Sony headphones with the right channel out. So much for the stereo field eh?
I thought that B sounded a little "tighter" in the midrange. I didn't notice the extra verb that everyone is talking about. That autotune effect...
Ahhh... subliminal messages. Now there's something to think about!
Send me your money! And your mics and pres!
I wonder if that would have any use on an internet message board?
Enh...
c7sus: Are you being sarcastic or are you just being a jackass?
I notice you're padding up your post count quite nicely in this thread as well.
Hey, I guess I am too! Sweet!
Nice story! I just saw him a couple weeks ago for the fourth time. It was in a small club and I got to stand in the front row, where I could have grabbed his guitar if I wanted to.
You are totally right about his stage persona. Half the time he has his eyes closed on stage. I think it might...
