    Acoustic treatment help!

Thanks, Rami. I wish that were possible. The entertainment center is huge. I don't think I asked the question very well. I realize corner bass traps are needed, but I'm not sure if I would benefit from every corner having one in this room. Anyone? I just had a thought for a DIY bass trap...

    Acoustic treatment help!

I have a little treatment at the early reflection points, but I need opinions on where to put bass traps and/or additional treatment. Thanks for your help. I've attached the layout of the room. It's not optimal as a mixing room, but it's what I've got.

Is the singer single most important element of the song ?

...people that aren't musicians...hmmm...Well I suppose the main reason there are singers is to appeal to the folks that have money. Most musicians don't have any money! BTW- I'm a singer and consider myself a musician. I don't take any offense to your stance, however.

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

I barely hear what you're talking about regarding the cracle. I don't really hear it at all in the mix. It may be part of what the comp is not taking out of the OH. He's bounces the stick on the snare a few times as well, but I don't think this is what you're referring to. I may give this a...

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

As I stated, guys, the quick comp in the eq range of the snare in the OH did the trick well enough for me. I would think that a lot of you may not always have the luxury of micro-managing the tracking and have to deal with issues. I may also go further with mindsounds ideas of doubling the...

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

At least I didn't ask a question like..."What EQ setting do I use to make my mix sound professional?" :)

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

I tried that to no avail. It took too much of the shine away from the cymbals. I used a quick attack/release and narrowed the freq range of the compression to somewhat single out the snare in the OH. Being triggered by the snare track, it took the OH snare away just enough for the actual...

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

This is exactly what I did over the weekend and it helped a lot. Luckily Reaper makes that easy. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I started to cut the snare out of the overheads with editing, but the problem is there are cymbal hits along with the snare quite a bit.

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

Nudging and flipping polarity helped some, but did not resolve. Just goes to show; tracking is the most important part. I just can't get there from here and I'm probably expecting too much from the recording. I'm going to try and talk them into tracking again. I know nothing about drum...

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

Probably has to do with the fact they've known me as a singer and not someone who is now just passed "noob" in mixing. :) If he fusses in the end, that's exactly what I'll tell him. The nudge technique sounds interesting. I'll give that a go. Thanks much.

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

That's solid advice, CMB. Thanks. Unfortunately, I have more mixing experience than I do tracking. Not much in either!! If I could only quit my day job!! :) I have a tough time making tracking/mixing suggestions to the guys I play with (head-strong w/ opinions), so I have a lot of respect...

Real drums - snare in the overhead - help!!

Thanks. I may be able to influence future tracking, but I have to deal with this one as is. I've tried comp/multi-band comp and EQ for the sum of the OH and snare track to no avail. I can get a solid snare; it's just not the timbre I was hoping for. Gotta live with things sometimes!
