Best mic for recording acoustic guitar?

OK, I've done a little more experimenting w/ the C3000 and learned a few things. I was getting a not-so-good sound by following the standard wisdom of close-micing the guitar around the 14th fret, where the neck meets the body. I get a much better sound by aiming the mic around the 10th - 12th...

Best mic for recording acoustic guitar?

I've got an AKG C3000. Great mic for lots of things, but it doesn't sound so good on my acoustic guitar. Would a small diaphram condenser work better? Like a Shure SM81? Or do I just need to do some heavy EQing with the C3000? I'm looking for a great solo acoustic fingerpicking type sound.

    frettless guitar (non-bass)

Years ago I had a record by a couple of acoustic jazz guitarists. One was named Philip Catherine. I think he's French, or something. Anyway, He played a frettless guitar in a couple songs. Great sound texture for guitar, very unusual. Like a fretless Bass sound in many ways, but still...

OK, so is the G string regular or octave in Nashville tuning?

    Blank CD-R's

I trust you, I apparently misunderstood the details about SCMS. The Audio Only CDR's must have something different about them, because the consumer CD Recorders can only record on those. What exactly is the difference in the media itself? Something tells the recorder which type of CDR it is...

    Blank CD-R's

But the "Music Only" CDR's are different from Data CDR's, and it's because of SCMS. I looked up lots of info on it before I bought my CD Recorder. I'll try to find some links for you guys.

    BOSS DR-770 Dr. Rhythm

I'm interested in the ethnic stuff in the DR-770. What kinds of ethnic sounds does it have? I assume various shakers, handdrums , rattles etc. The SR-16 doesn't really have stuff like that. Seems to me that using ethnic patterns behind acoustic music might add more spice that a regular drum set.

    Blank CD-R's

CDR's labelled "FOR MUSIC" are preprogrammed with SCMS copy protection to keep you from copying a copy of a commercially released CD. It's the type of copy protection built in to all "Consumer" CD Recorders. "Professional" CD Recorders don't have SCMS, or make it available if you want to...

    BOSS DR-770 Dr. Rhythm

I have an old Alesis SR-16 drum machine. I'm wondering what the advantages might be to upgrade to a BOSS DR-770? Anyone familiar with both that might be able to help me decide?

    Alesis SR-16 sys-ex files available?

OK, Green Hornet - you got me thinking. I've looked at the info on the DR-770. Tell me about the 4 Bass sounds. Does that mean you can use a sequencer to play back a Bass track thru the DR-770? Also, I'm very interested in the "World" patterns. Do they sound ethnic without sounding Latin? I...

    My gripe about the POD

I have a POD Pro that I use both Live and for recording. I NEVER have a problem with hiss. I don't know if the Pro is better than the standard models in that regard. Is everyone using grounded outlets to plug in your equipment? I only ask that because another guitarist I play with had a big...

Ok how many strat and or fender guitar lovers?

Strat Cat here. I've had 4 Strats, all different models, and another on order as we speak. I started off with an Elite Strat, then a Heavy Metal Strat, then a Strat Plus. I don't have those 3 anymore. My current Strat is an American Standard Strat Hardtail (Hardtail because I DO have a...

    VF-16 Covers?

I just got one of these covers from Man for my VF-16. Wow, fits great & looks great! I'd highly recommend him as a source of covers for your equipment. Now my table with the VF-16 looks much better than when I had a white garbage bag draped over it. Only $22.50 total, for a custom made cover.

    Alesis SR-16 sys-ex files available?

Speaking of the SR-16. I have a file of user patterns that I got years ago from some place called Sound Source. Is there any other source for new patterns for the SR-16??

    Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine Waltz

I havve an old SR-16 that I use mainly for a fancy metronome. Yes, you can program 3/4 time. You don't set a time signature per se, but you specify how many beats to the pattern - up to 128 beats! For the typical 4/4 time, they have a 2-bar pattern, so it's set to 8 beats. If you wanted 3/4...

    POD HISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I have a POD Pro that I use live and for recording and I've had absolutely NO hiss problem. I'm kinda puzzled at how many times I see this come up in the various BBS sites I visit.

    VR 16

VR 16?? Do you mean the VF-16? If you do, it'll record 8 tracks simultaneously. If you're running an ADAT signal into it, it'll do 16 tracks simultaneously. It's just 16 bit, not 24. But that's CD quality, so that's good enough for me. I have one, but haven't used it real extensively yet. I...

    Anybody Regret Buying VF16?

I haven't used mine real estensively yet, but yes, I'm happy with it. CD quality specs, 16 tracks to play with, built-in effects, digital mixer, etc. - AMAZING for this price. The learning curve is rather steep, but that's mostly the fault of the manual, which is written in Englapanese, or...

    More CR300 Questions

The VF-16 can output tracks as Wave files, for computer editing, but the CR300 isn't involved with that. The VF-16 has a SCSI connection, but the CR300 doesn't. The CR300 IS a storage device, so why connect it to another SCSI storage device? It has all the various analog & digital connections...

VF-16: S/PDIF May Be THE Answer!

Well, I think the VS machines all use data compression, unless you use only half the tracks. The 840 might be the one that always uses data compression. I've read that people much prefer the uncompressed sound of the VF-16. The BR8 is a beginner machine, only 8 tracks. Does it also use data...
