Holy Overhead! Is Sonar 5 worth it?

I used Sonar 4 for about 3 months before Sonar 5 came out. I have, so far, found virtually no difference in cpu resources between the 2. However, I think workflow has an impact on this as I generally record in midi first and then bounce everything to audio after the midi is where I want it...

    Is sonar easy to use??

I think, if you have an intuitive mind and pretty much understand what you are doing, you will find Sonar easy to use . . . and not so easy to master. It will take some work and familiarity with the program but it is not difficult to produce a decent output. Just read the manual, do the...

    Changing project timing

I'm not sure you can do this in Sonar with audio tracks. That's why I always start with midi tracks where you can control things like tempo. After I get the midi where I want it I either bounce it to a audio track or send it to a soft synth.

turning program changes OFF in Sonar?

Filtering is very easy in Sonar. Select the clip and while it is selected select the filter dialog and choose your settings. Then either copy or delete, depending on what you wish to accomplish, and you're all set. I use this feature a lot on midi data that is already recorded.

    new computer for Sonar 5

The problem with 64 bit right now is that most of the plug-ins are not too friendly with 64 bit. Sonar 5 will run a 64 bit floating point audio engine in a 32 bit environment and it does sound pretty good. My system is built around an AMD 64 bit 3500+ chip and I'm quite pleased with it.

    Pro Audio 9.3 Vs Sonar

If you look at the system requirements for Sonar you'll see that the minimum is for a P4 1.3 ghz with 128mb RAM. You WILL have problems trying to run at the minimum level. The recommended is P4 2.8ghz or Athlon 64 2800+ with 512mb RAM. If you plan on using many plug-ins or effects you...

    Sonar Pro 5

Sonar won't show your sound card in MIDI options. Go to Audio options and you should find it there. You will then need to select your sound card drivers and run the wave profiler. HTH

    firepod/sonar newb tracking troubles

Which drivers are you using? Asio? WDM? MME? I'm not familiar with the firepod but when I was setting up my PCI Audiophile 192 I discovered that which drivers I used made a difference when setting latency and buffers.

    Mixing question in Sonar 5

I select the entire mix but have the 2 MIDI tracks muted so they're not a factor. No This is a good idea I hadn't thought of. I'll try that and let you know what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Mixing question in Sonar 5

I finished a mix a couple of nights ago which consisted of 2 MIDI tracks driving hardware synths and 3 Dimension Pro tracks. I recorded the 2 HW synth tracks to an audio track and then muted the MIDI tracks. I tweaked the final mix to where it sounded like what I wanted it to sound like and then...
