    Ever get disheartened?

As we age (or maybe just mature musicaly) our minds filter out the junk so the creative process appears to slow down. Don't worry, the creative part is still there. Just keep reminding yourself to take a few chances along the way. We create our own blocks, perfectionists are not the ones who...

    RF problem

Is it really nessassary to have that long of cables? Use the shortest spans of cable possible. Is your house old enough to have any aluminum wireing? Aluminum wire is an open invitation to radio interference. Think about geology for a moment, if your house is located above an iron deposit...

    all around help thread!!

If we did it would quickly get so cluttered and confussing that no one would gain anything. The forums are divided into categories for a purpose. Anyone too lazy to do a little reasearch will probably loose interest before they make their first semi decent recording anyway.

    Blueridge Guitars

A friend of mine who owns a music store carries them, I've played several. They seem pretty decent for their price, playable, decent tone, fairly good set up out of the box. I can't say how well they hold up over time but while new they seem worth their cost.

    Chorus Pedals Hate or Love

I have mixed feelings about chorus. I rarely use it for leads but when playing rythm I find just a little chorus kind of fattens the sound. Chorus is like any other efx, when used a little it enhances, when overused it becomes a distraction. That's my oppinion anyway.

    What am i missing?

I totaly agree on this. You need to do all you can to get the best sound before you hit the record button. Room treatment doesn't have to be expensive or pretty, it just has to be effective.

    best cities for music?

Avoid Spartanburg, SC unless you are willing to provide your own sound and lights, play 3-4 hour gigs and want less than $300 for the gig. Club owners down there have gotten seriously stingy about paying bands, no matter how good they are or how big of a croud they can draw.

    Transfer Cassette tapes to Computer

Make sure you have the input selector (in Audacity) set to stereo or you will only record a mono track. Record 1 song at a time, Audacity often encounters latency issues after about 6 minutes of continus recording. After you record the songs/tracks you want copy them or transfer them to your...

    Live sound question...

If the line outs are bridgeable a Y conector will work fine, if not you may run into some phasing issues. Check the manual and see if the outs can be bridged. Also check youe efx bank to see if there is a mono delay, if it has a mono delay use it. This should send the same delay to both sides...

what kind of effect pedal we must have?

Probably, but don't worry, now you wont have to make up excuses for acting like it. :)

what kind of effect pedal we must have?

I've heard that only works with asian made guitars.

    Sound Proofing -vs- Room Treatment

Someone gave me a piece of that stuff, it's gotta be the best pad I ever found to sit my amp on. The floor hasn't complained about the noise since I've been using the foam so all the sales hype must be true. :)

    sound question

What you are hearing when you change from a pick to the side of your thumb is you are physically changing the attack on the note, the decay is also affected but what you hear is more attack. I'm not sure if this is what you are wanting to know if this can be done in the processing phase or not...

    Help me help my kid

I've had a bit of experience working with autistic children, my wife and I headed a support group for several years. An interesting point you may want to consider while choosing a product is the actual physical appearance of the mixing surface. Autistic children (adults too) tend to respond...

    Sound Proofing -vs- Room Treatment

Imo you want a structure which has the ability to keep out all the sounds you do not want to record. Keeping out unwanted sounds/noise is the main reason for soundproofing. Room treatment on the other hand is whatever you can do to make the sound within the room sound the best it can. Ever...

    quick nub question

If it sounds fine, there is no need to add compression or any other efx. I only add any efx if a track seems bland, and then add a little at a time until it sounds better.

    why is foam bad?

The best use I have for foam around the studio is for padding. I wedge pieces of foam between anything that rattles. This cuts down on some unwanted noise such as ratteling drums (where say a tom touches the bass drum) or other pesky viberation. If you have hollow doors you can glue dense...

    Soundproofing-- Cup Holders?

Cup holders and egg crates are pretty much the same thing and neither one works.

    XL this 25RG that...?!!!?@!?

If those numbers happen to be on a 25 watt guitar amp with reverb, then they mean something, if they are on another amp they are probably just a model number assigned to the unit by whoever made it. There doesn't seem to be a standard series of abbreviations but a few fairly common ones are...

    Another Reason For New Strings

Beyond the obvious reasons we like new strings, they sound better, play better, stay in tune better, etc... Old strings become pitted and wear the frets faster than new smooth ones. This isn't a thread for debate, just passing along another tip. Any other ideas or tips welcome.
