    anybody record like this?

I just want to see if anybody has the same setup. O.K..... dm5 kit running midi(just kick, snare and toms) into a m-audiophile 2496. all monitoring with bfd. two OH v-67 marshall mics picking up ride, crashes, and hi-hats in a x-y config. OH in the stereo left and...

Modern Metal Guitar Tone - (w/ sample)

line 6 only a suggestion...but try,two tracks on input. blend a miked cab with a modeler ,preferably a line 6(pod xt, pod pro , pocket pod ,tone port...) this will provide you clear distorted recto sound. give your cab a slight crunch, not too much. blend these tracks together on seprate...

How do I get this kick tone?

kick d112 or beta 3 inches away from the inside head, 4 to 1 ratio on compressor fast attack and slightly fast release 0 db on out(compressor tracking only) mixdown only use limiters preferably l2 or something better. eq if 22 inch bass drum (standerd) cut everthing below 33hz and start at 58hz...

How many tracks do you use to record drums?

5 or more The most common drumkit I get through my studio is a five peace kit. snare-sm57 kick-d112 high toms(two on the top with one mic in between them)-sm57 low tom-samson qkick(this mic is only good for low toms nothing else) overhaeds-2 samson co1's 1x room-mxl v67 gold I guess that is 7...

Tracking bass that's tuned very low.

bass volume knob I have run into the same problem you have. in the tracking, the first thing that worked for me is to tell you bass player to turn his volume knob half way up instead of all the way open. this will cut your muddyness down 50%. In mix down process cut frequency at 100hz to...

    Recording drums is hard (damnit)

try this four mic setup If you are using the x-y set up it might be hard to get your full drum sound with only 3 mics. x-y works reay good for close micing, but it might give you a problem with phase if your image is too wide. try setting your overhead 5 feet apart and 18 inches off your...

want to get home at a decent hour??

panning Another thing to try is to pan the overheads 100% right and 100% left. sorry guitarist you only get 50% right and left . Hey Im a guitarist and I had to learn the hard way. I know alot of you know this, but for the new people this might help them. This will take place in the 2nd...

want to get home at a decent hour??

I spend hours on end tweaking my condeser mike's. don't get me wrong, I think they are crisp and tasty!! but I got a day job(on call 24/7), a girlfriend, and I would actually like to "record something" when Im in my studio. I have found a quick fix to all my "drum" problems and I thought I...

    Getting this bass drum sound.

pzm mic you need a thin sounding room(record in the garage) , a dead head (perferably used) and a pzm mic. the pzm mic is the key. It will give your hollowness about six feet away shooting straight up towards the ceiling.

    Drum Mics

tight budget!! I pesonally use 2x v67g mxl's for the overheads and I think they work really well. as long as they are facing striaght down on the cymbals 18 inches off your highest one, and you keep the mic's 5 feet apart (they seem to get out of faze when they are anywhere else)...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

Who did your mastering? mp3, i know you lose alot of quality. i master my own stuff and i have come to find out you have to master two different ways. one for wave and one for mp3's. mastering compression on wave and none on mp3's. mp3's compress the hell out of a wave and you lose some life...

    Crate Amps

use your envorement i've been recording for years and the best little amps to use are these cube amps by roland. micro cube is a good amp you can isolate or stick in the bathroom to record. it helps that it's battery powerd and light. it is a modeling amp you can lift with your finger. try one out.

    Recommend an amp?

heard something usefull guitar center has lowerd thier prices on the blue voodoo 120h's. the told me they were going for around 300 bucks. good distortion, exellent clean and has reverb for both channels. not a bad amp. try one out.

Anyone try the Roland Micro Cube?

micro-mega tone I tend to think the miro-cube is also good for a home studio. I've recorded all over house using it. being that is battery powered and light. put an sm57 off axis 3 inches away from it and set it dead center on the bath tub, you can't go wrong.

    bass drum microphone

all 3 rock!! I've used all three and they all do well. the d6 is what i'm using now because my drummer wants that low frequency response, but thats all in mic placement anyway. the d112 is the best all around mic you could get for recording. they are easy to eq. the beta 52 is a good "woof"...
