    Drum Microphones/ Set-up

First off, I'm gonna do some of the Vets here a favor by letting you know that "that professional sound" comes with years of experience, the right set of ears, a great band, playing on fantastic gear and capturing it in a great room with an awesome dude behind the glass. I know it's probably not...

    Recording drums (noob qst)

I would start with One mic, maybe one of the NT 3s (I would experiement all the mics you have) But try to put it in a place where you think it would capture the whole drum set accurately. (sometimes for me this is directly over the kick pedal about 6 feet off the floor, I think that may be like...

Haha, actually in a Tape Op review of the VLA II they referred to it as "the poor man's LA-2"

    mixing live drums

What would you think about trying to send the guitars and bass to the mixer and then summing them to 1 stereo track? I think it would be better in the mixing stage to be able to shape the drums.

If your speakers are up against a wall...

Move them! I use to have them within inches of the wall (2-3 inches) and Just this past week I moved my console out about 2 feet and I can't even begin to tell you what a difference it made. I didn't think it made that much of a difference at first, but when I listened on other systems, my mixes...

Need help in getting vocal to fit track + how to mix it better

First of all what kind of comp are you using? Hardware or software? I'm guessing it's some plug ins though. Does it sound better without compression? If so...don't compress it, or look around the net for better plugins, some are free, I'm not a digital guy so I couldn't tell you whats good, but...

Need help in getting vocal to fit track + how to mix it better

Read about some of the vocal recording and mixing techniques, try em out, analyze the results and repeat. This is probably the most efficient way to get results. Everyone here is great and they give great advice but they dont always know what YOU'RE looking for, only you do. Its about listening...

    a new recording...without the production.....

I thought it sounded great man. Like the others said the vocals in general were a little too loud, but in contrast to the lead, I didn't feel that the backing vocals was to loud, I thought the counterpoint was cool and it sat nicely with the lead. Are you playing a real keyboard thru an amp...

    Sick of Buying cables....

I'm sick of buying cables that are too expensive, too long or too short. I've made cables before so I'm wondering where some of you guys get your supplies. I went to guitar center (not expecting much) and it was basically just as expensive to buy the supplies maybe a dollar or 2 cheaper....(no...

What are YOUR essential rack effects?

One time I put a guitar track through everything in my rack and made sure it was clipping every piece of gear that I had, it ended up sounding like a melodic alien space ship raping mankind as we know it. Its not exact "essential" but it was cool. which pretty much sums up how I feel...

    how much should i charge?

If your starting out, I would say the bare minimum without screwing yourself over. Get clients and repeat clients, as many as you can.
