I'm sick of buying cables that are too expensive, too long or too short. I've made cables before so I'm wondering where some of you guys get your supplies. I went to guitar center (not expecting much) and it was basically just as expensive to buy the supplies maybe a dollar or 2 cheaper....(no surprise there). I'm just looking for some good shielded cabling and some XLR (male and female) and TRS connectors. Have any of you guys had good experience with any places that sell this stuff?

Thanks,
-Barrett

i had the same thoughts as you a good while ago...

just kept an eye on ebay and ended up getting some van damme "patch cable" at £25 for 100 m.

i bought two rolls and haven't needed any more since..

fair enough, it's probably a lighter grade than it should be,,,i don't know that sort of thing, but bargains are there to be had :)

as far as the actual connectors, i just get them on ebay or a local shop too.. usually £1.50 a go or thereabouts.

never had one of my own cables break on me, and i figure £25 for 100m = 25p/metre

so a 10m xlr costs me £2.50 + £3 for connectors?=£5.50...

not bad ;)

Awesome, thanks a lot, I'll have to check ebay out

cool :)

i would advise you to do more research than i did though...

if often wondered if patch cable is 'uncool' for 10m mic cables....but then like i said, they serve me just fine :)

cool..

maybe someone around here can give you a heads up about guage and quality and that..

idk how into diy you are, but i've found it sooooo handy havin loads of spare audio cable lying around.

What about this or for better quality this.

screw you pandamonk......you couldn't just let me have it?? :laughings::laughings:

fair play mate. good catch.

fwiw i looked at bulk xlrs on ebay...

got my total costs down to £4.70 each :drunk:

yeh, 10m, but i meant home made ones, bulk buyin the connectors.

I wouldn't mess around with any cheapo ends from companies I don't know, I'd stick with Neutrik, Switchcraft and Canare. I have seen good ends from Canon, but not for a long time. Otherwise you're prolonging the "Bad Cable Dance", and we all know what that's like! :(

Just do it right once and you'll have good cables for decades... I honestly think it's cheaper than repeatedly buying junk.
