    Have I missed anybody's questions?

Thanks Harvey. I thought that would be a good one for the mic thread (which was where I originally posted it.). In addition -- and thanks for clearing up in my mind that it IS at least 3 times the distance *further* away -- does totally negate the chance for phase cancelllations, or merely...

    Have I missed anybody's questions?

Yeah. 3 and 1 micing rule? And how does it (if it does at all) relate to omni verses cardiod patterns...

Your drum mike reccomendations..mine are bleh..

Thanks Harvey! I was pretty close to just buying one of those RS mics just to kill the suspense. I appreciate the info. Hey, the mic sounded okay on toms then? How did it compare to--say--a 421 or a 57? Oh, BTW, a v67g is on its way. I finally got off the v67/C1 fence. (Sorry, Alan...) :(...

Your drum mike reccomendations..mine are bleh..

Harvey?!? Did you actually test that Radio Shack mic yet? Was that a recommendation? Did you try on a kick-drum? (Which they claim it's good for...I they listed freq. resp. only down to 100Hz though?) What gives? :)

How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

3 and 1 Rule As it relates to phase problems with two or mics, could someone explain the details of this? Also, is the rule consistent using cardiods and/or omnis? Thanks, -Doug

    Acoustical stuff for travel...

I'm sure you could build your own "max wall" for a whole lot less. See the Sayers info on the SAE site (been linked a zillion times...) and construct your own with some lumber, plexiglass (if needed..) and rigid fiberglass insulation. It shouldn't be to hard to make in smaller, transportable...

    Micing Drums

Accroya, I have a slightly different approach for you to try. I believe that if the drums sound good to begin with, all you need to do is capture them. To do that, I would put the 1000s in an x/y pattern about 4 feet infront of the kit. Use the height (or angle relative to the ground...) you...

Mr. Gerst - Mic Guy Extraodinaire...

Were you serious about testing that Radio Shack mic? I saw it last time I was in the store and thought it seemed pretty flimsy and cheesy. I couldn't imagine such a small and unsubstatial looking mic could stand up to the powerful thud of a kick drum, but hey, look at me, I bought a pair of...

Will a Joe meek pre cut down noise from a marshall mic?

I thought what Alan actually said was that he didn't want to comment on their mic because he is coming out with one in the same price range... No wonder he got pissed. He actually was trying to play by your rules and you still slagged him. He also asked an adroit question -- which model? I...

Behringer may have just taken the lead in "Best Bang/buck" mics

ECM 8000 Cases If you look close, you'll realize the mic case is just a cassette case with foam inserts. And you wonder how they sell them so cheap...?

    Marshall V67 at Mars Music

VIRTUAL.RAY! Is that price true? Or are you trying to get a run going on those mics? I called Mars On-Line and they said that may be the price for a refurb. The salesguy also said that if I could get details I could ask for a price match... Got any? 'Cause if I can get that price... That mic...

Behringer may have just taken the lead in "Best Bang/buck" mics

Thanks Harvey! My ECM's finally arrived. Thank you so much Harvey for pointing them out to all of us. We owe much to you and your wisdom. I never did get an aswer on the difference between omnis and cardoids when it comes to room sounds. Are cardoids less forgiving on quiet sources because of...

Behringer may have just taken the lead in "Best Bang/buck" mics

Hey Harv! Is it possible that some rooms sound so doggone crappy because we are listening through "one ear" with one-dimensional cardiods? I only seem to notice the problems in mine when I'm micing an acoustic (obviously, most bets are off with a very loud source like an amp...) with cardiods...
