Not to sound like a smartass or anything, but alot of your questions can be answered by placing your ear in front of your amp and moving it around. There is no standard "sweet spot" for different amps/cabs or genres. Only what sounds like what you're going for.
That said: You're not limited...
75% is pretty specific, what if the song calls for them to be panned at 83%?
Just about anyone engaged in recording should nail key changes more often than not. It's the differences in the takes that makes recording the same part two different times worth doing.
It's probably my favorite...
You mean, to get that effected sound that he's looking for? You know, you may be onto something here.
Personally, I feel that most guitarists rely too heavily on strings. It's just whacky imo. How dare they take advantage of the resources available and make music with it.
/sarcasm...
You can't go wrong with wood finishes on cabinets and heads when you're trying to win over your girl's opinion on leaving gear out for easy access.
I've become quite the fan of using loose, breathable, decorative fabrics as grill cloth. You gotta make sure to paint the cavity but it's...
I've used an NT3 for a few things. Acoustic guitars, amplifiers, beater side of a bass drum, batter side of a snare drum and as an ambient room mic when recording drums.
In all scenarios it was the best mic for the job after testing all that I had at the time.
It's a pretty okay mic if...

Thanks for taking it like a champ! lol I'm pretty opinionated myself and I find it hard sometimes not to start throwing out how I would do something. I try to stick with facts and then start off with "What I usually do is:" lol
Regardless, there are a million and one ways to mess up a...
Now, everything you've said makes sense to some extent. However, let me interject with my usual contemplations. Now....you say that you never want to clip in a digital setting because all you'll get is ugly sounding distortion. Some will agree, some won't (I'm sure) that's the nature of the...
I primarily play through open back combos/cabinets so this method works well for me.
I usually place my amp/cab about 5 feet away pointing directly at the corner of our iso room with an SM57 right up on the grill. Pretty standard.
My second mic is an ADK Hamburg approx. 6 feet directly behind...
We just tested a few long runs at our "studio" a few weeks ago.
Our iso room is a decent distance from the gear in the live room so we were exploring our options. We used two Studio Projects C4: 1 with an 10ft cable straight to the board and the other with a 10ft cable to a stage snake to...
I could see some pretty cool stuff out of a 1 string pickup, though I'd guess that you're probably still going to get some residuals from the A string.
If you added a pickup to one string and added new knobs and jack you could run it through a wah pedal to another amp! Oh la la!
I'm a fan of layering, I tend to use multiple amps/guitars to record the same parts. I also stereo mic but use different microphones (I.E. SM57 and a Hamburg)
I also like to throw in an acoustic guitar double mic'd, even on heavier stuff, but I'm kinda funny like that.
Pan each set a little...
Sometimes, in guitar amplifiers the number is an indication of the wattage (usually the lower line stuff)
Sometimes in mixers the number is an indication of the number of channels.
Sometimes the numbers are just rubbish and mean absolutely nothing.
He must have been one of those, mix-by-sight guys. Don't pay attention to them. If your meters are in the red, that's usually not good (but not always).
Hey guys, I appreciate the respnonses to the thread...but..... It went quite a while before the first reply so I kinda figured out how to do a bunch of stuff on my own. It's not top notch or anything but it worked out very well for what I needed. I appreciate the offers though, guys. I...
