    I have an old Fender Champ silverface all tube amp (the one w/ presence control) ... had originally an 8" speaker, but was modded for a 10" celestion vintage ... highly recommended soundwise ... its the battlehorse of my equipment ... the bass-dude shows up w/out amp ... hook em up to the champ...

    I agree - unless you run your amp at master volume 11 - ... pre-amp tubes are way more important for your sound than power-tubes ...

    I investigated the older ones as well ... however the new ones are neck-thru (as opposed to bolt-on) ... I figure if everything goes wrong ... it still makes for an excellent hot-rod-platform ...

    you might also want to look into the bill lawrence pickups, esp. the 490 and 500 series ... way cheaper than gibsons and imho way better. i got a set of BL 350s in a LP copy and they put my Gibson LP to shame best of luck alfred

    My DREAM Setup...

    mic it AND use the direct in ... and mix it to your liking. the mic'd part will give you the distortion and ballsy sound, the DI will give you definition and crispyness (you might want to keep the DI down, like a 20:80 biased towards the mic) take it from there and keep us posted alfred

    pedal settings

    just turn bass all the way up, mids all the way down and higher mids to highs (or presence if you have) up ... and voilá ... instant cr@ppy metal guitar sound :D
