MIDI controller with knobs for Tascam 2488 NEO??

I could probably be done but the real issue will be keeping a visual track of your real time changes to parameters -- the Tascams just don't have the sort of processing or video output you'll need to keep up. If you dive in you should get used to using the cursor and jog wheel, i find I don't...

Reviving an old thread is sometimes interesting, I may have to spend some e-music credit on some Blotted Science for my old brain.

My neck on my BC Rich Avenge SOB guitar cracked can you help?????

Looks like a clean break so you should be able to repair it. If the repair fails you should be patient and try to find a replacement neck. OBTW get your own guitar stand. It always amazes me the way BC Rich instruments break like no others.

What dynamic should I get for vocals (using it alongside an LDC)

I often use the same technique for vox, but set the LDC slightly behind & above the other mic. If the singer has a preferred mic I will use that if not the "safe" choice for a dynamic is an SM58 although lately I have been really happy with an EV PL84 hand held condenser.

    tascam dp-01 usb cable

There is a command on the menu to open the usb, once open your computer will see the DP01 as an external drive just like a thumb drive or other device. Once that is open then you can use you PC to save and burn audio files.

    External effect on 2488 neo

Having separate effects/dry tracks is just another way of doing things. With the availability of virtual tracks it's just a safety measure to always keep a dry track in case you want to change effects on a track. In my case i will sometimes try different reverbs or delays once we get to...

Old Gibsons I wish I still had

I had a 58 or 59 Black ES 335 that was stolen back when i still played gtr, we had a bond and loosing her was one reason for switched focus on bass '77 RD Artist Bass- loved the neck, electronics and sound but never really got comfy with the body shape traded it for '76 Sunburst Ripper man I...

Bass, Dampening, old school pop/r&b sound

As far as McCartney's tone goes Fender was never his choice, Harrison and Lennon and some of the session players for sure - but not Macca. That was a period of transition at Abbey Road and recording from mic'ing small bass amps to using early DI boxes. The P-bass is much more traditional for...

Bass, Dampening, old school pop/r&b sound

On old school P & J basses there was a piece of black fairly dense rubber foam on the inside of the bridge cover, the idea was to soften attack and cause a faster decay to simulate the sound of an upright bass and the strings were fairly dead flat wound strings compared to contemporary sets...

Best kind of stand for a desk?

The MD5 is not adjustable so might not fit your needs. There are short solid and tripod base stands that are adjustable and even short boom stands. The only issue with using a table stand could be rumble thru the table top even with a shock mount.

whats a good *budget* mic to use on a bass guitar rig?

Personally I hate the results from either the AKG D112 or Shure Beta 52 especially when used on both are used on the bass drum(s) and bass cab for live or recording. For speed metal lock step stuff it might be a good result but for other stuff not so much. For that reason I most often take...

    Your Opinion On Amp Sims

For guitar I would prefer a real amp but I usually use an amp sim for personal and some other recording just to have some fun and exotic choices. A lot depends on the player and their openness to using a sim and the availability of a preferred amp. One rock player I work with has a ball going...

    Reverb question regarding 2488Neo

The internal verbs on the Tascam are certainly usable, the trick is getting the right send & return levels as well as finding the right space. I prefer to use the "studio" or sometimes "room" reverb just to add some air and depth for anything else I use an external verb especially for vox. I...

    Old Mic

Cool looking old mic, box and all. I don't know enough to be very helpful but here goes. As i recall that is a mic for radio broadcast most likely a dispatchers mic that attaches to a desk stand that would have a switch that connects to a radio set. That mic is from the days before XLR or...

whats a good *budget* mic to use on a bass guitar rig?

I get really good results from a CAD KBM412 usually about 50 bucks, it's good for bass drums but better for bass amps, tuba, string bass and capturing low end on a piano or guitar amp. Even used this for a powerful bass vocalist that was crapping out every other mic we tried, he has even...

    muting staccato bass?

It would depend on what else is happening and what works. The drummer I record with most plays double bass and we are constantly playing against each other to create dynamics. If he is pumping 8ths then I will be playing punches and the other way around, on occasion we do play straight 8ths...

How much difference does a quality mic really make?

There are a lot of options and spaces t use and you just have to try and see what works for you. As far as capture goes i prefer a bit of air and openness over a dead claustrophobic sound so generally record vox in the center of a largish room*. I prefer to use an old school up high mic...

    External effect on 2488 neo

Take send 1 or send 2 to your effects and return signal to any of the inputs. Then you can assign the input to a track and record if you want to print a track or assign it to the sub/aux bus to monitor the track with out printing. Assign what tracks but using the send on each channel.
