Trying to decide between M-Audio 1010LT, OR Tascam US800????

I would hang on to the tascam if I were you. I think the breakout cables are the stupidist ideas ever and they CAN get interference and be noisy. Not to mention going the usb route opens alot of doors where a pci card is more or less permanent. When I made the switch from a pci card to usb I...

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secrets

Nothing fancy just don't want this thread to die out so soon. I had a problem with noise in the background while tracking a band so I miced up the noise with a second mic and flipped the phase on it and the bleeding noise was gone. Phase cancellation can work for you instead of against you...

    The Perfect mix

Just curious what everyone here thinks. I record mostly my own stuff and I'm never 100% satisfied with the end product but when I record others I seem to be slightly more happy with the end result. Do you guys have the same perception on things or do I just suck that bad?

    PC or Mac for recording?

I have recently been converted to MAC for recording thanks to Apogee. I ran hackintosh on my hp laptop (AMD) for a week (worked flawlessly once you get the kexts right) after getting the one then shelled out the money for a real MAC and a duet I couldn't be happier.

real drums, electric drums, or button pushing?

Yeah I had a similar eye opening experience when I got my first set of monitors you can actually hear how stuff is supposed to sound! I think the quality of audio is getting better but its a lot like movies imo. I mean you record some drums way back when and you have to modify things to get it...

    Hi-hat bleed.

Get a better drummer or get them to play better. Raise the hi hat. Keep your hands off the eq thats going to do absolutely nothing for your bleed problem. Check your phase if you're using multiple mics your snare may be having phase issues and its getting canceled while your hats not. A...

    The pro piracy thread

The enforcement of copyright is the responsibility of the copyright holder.[7] Article 50 of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) requires that signatory countries enable courts to remedy copyright infringement with injunctions and the destruction of...

    Mixing in headphones

same reason blockbuster movies are shot with 35mm film cameras despite the fact that some of us will be watching it on anything from an old tv to a iphone. It's not as circumstantial as that though. The sonic image that is projected through headphones is inaccurate. The point of monitoring is...

Rockwool bass traps make my room have MORE bass

^^^ yep i thought the same thing the first time i walked into a studio and the mix room seemed to have more bass than the tracking room(s)

    Your advice when mixing

I think my best tip is to never get attached to a track it may sound awesome alone or may be your "best mic" but it just might not work in the mix don't get emotional with it. Try not to look at faders to much and use your ears instead. Also don't go straight into mixing after tracking take a...

What kind of cab? I like it pretty close to center on my 1960AC but then again greenbacks and gt75s are very different animals.

I never tried the 609 in recording I played a gig awhile ago where the sound guy miced us with the 609. Live it didn't sound bad. Is the 609 really that bad?

Observation Shure SM57, BETA 57, and Sennheiser e906.

Just want to see if anyone concur. After hours of playing with my new E906 and apogee one I've noticed that on my big toys (4x12 cabs) the e906 likes to be really close to the amp while the sm57 likes to be backed off a little bit further while the beta57 sounds best backed up even further than...
