Using fundamental frequency as rolloff point

Hence the reason we "hear the flattest" at about 80db volume (which still isn't very flat)? Reminds me of the days back in concert band. I was a trumpet player. The band director would always encourage the trumpets to play quieter (boo...) and the lower instruments to play louder. Now I finall...

    Don't buy a POD!

I'm gonna wait for the Gigahertz processor to get cheaper. Of course, by the time a gigahertz processor is around 60 bucks, they will have out a 3 gigahertz! That's okay, just wait till that one gets cheaper. Oh well!!! Now they have a 4 gigahertz! Just wait a year, and.........

Using fundamental frequency as rolloff point

Hey, I was wondering if this makes sense to do..... would using the fundamental frequency of an instrument be a good rolloff point? This is what I mean: You hear stuff like, "Roll the bass guitar off at 80 hz," "Roll the bass guitar off at 70hz", etc, etc. Well, let's say your bass guitar is...

Bands name/logo on a kick drum head?

How do most bands go about doing this? We have cool band logo we'd like to have on the kick drum somehow, someway, but came to the reallization that we don't know how. Anyone know?

Whats the worst sounding guitar you have ever owned?

Ever heard of a Bryan? I picked up a guitar from a pawn shop once because it was cheap and learned to play on it. The brand was called "Bryan". The intonation was awful. I later found out the company that made the guitar was no longer in existence. Ever heard of "Bryan's?

I want the Kick Drum Sound on Ozzy's Perry Mason.

I second that. One of the most cutting kick drum sounds I've heard. Anybody wanna take a shot at this one?

    Stuidophiles sp-5b?

I own a pair.... they are definitely an improvement over trying the "mix and play back on different systems (aka trial an error)" approach, haven't had them long enough to make an accurrate assessment, or validate/argue all the stuff in the review Dolemite gave us a link to. Here's my...

Best recorded drum sound (w/apologies to the guitar thread)

I love the drums on Snot's album. In-yer-face and tight sounding. Another kit sound that I think about that I really, really liked that you may or may not have heard are Vision Of Disorders drums on their self titled cd.

Line 6 POD vs. Amp Farm

Hey, just curious... is the Amp Farm plugin pretty much the same amp models as a Line 6? Or do they have significant sonic differences?

How are "consumer audio speakers" tweaked as opposed to studio monitors?

Well, if anything, this has just reinforced the importance of flat-frequency reponse while mixing for accuracy, furthermore justifying the 300 bucks I just spent. And Tex: thanks for the info, but this question really was more about speakers themselves. Just needing to know if there's a point...

How are "consumer audio speakers" tweaked as opposed to studio monitors?

Hey, thanks for the replies.... I kinda figured a lot of the stuff you were saying, but it always helps to reassure. I'm not going to be doing any "official" mixing on these things for about 2 or 3 months... right now I have these monitors on my home PC.... I plan to spend a lot of time...

How are "consumer audio speakers" tweaked as opposed to studio monitors?

Bought my first pair of studio monitors yesterday. Studiophile SP-5B's. Nice. It's cool the way things just kinda jump out at you. Almost freaky in a way. Anyway, just had to mention that. For the longest time, I've been constantly reminded that you should mix on studio monitors because of...

dumb newbie Q: can I run powered speakers direct from my Boss BR-8

I had a friend that did exactly what you're doing. Except he had horrible Yamaha monitors. Thought I would mention that just for the sake of mentioning.

    Micing the bass itself....

I think I get the point. Hmmm, I may try micing the bridge instead, since that doesn't move nearly as much as the neck and headstock.

    Headphones (probably a stupid question)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "studio monitor" headphones are just more optimized for listening to while tracking? A pair I have doesn't have a flat eq by anymeans, but seals off the outside sounds quite well, and can take a SERIOUS amount of abuse if you crank the things. A studio we went to...

    Micing the bass itself....

Our bassist plays with a lot of cool slap/pop stuff, and it sounds really good on his new bass.... even unplugged. We want to have a combination of direct, micing his cab in the other room, and micing his actual bass. We have found that we get a lot of that slap/pop projection from the...

Now THIS is what Psychostick's guitar sounds like.

I posted the song in the guitar forum telling people that I had finally gotten a guitar tone I am really pleased with, and responses agreed and also said other noteable things about the song that led me to post it here. This is asi9 by the way, for some reason I can't post as my old name...

Wow... I'm actually PLEASED with my tone!!!

Just POD. That's nothing but POD through the mixer (which only served as a low-end roll-off) to the puter. I could have gone straight into the soundcard and gotten the same results w/ a little post eq. That's 4 different takes too... if you listen closely, you can hear the subtle differences...
