Why does this one cost so much...

Differences: Q10 has 8 preamps, s/pdif, dedicated monitoring, Word Clock, MIDI, 2 (switchable) hi z inputs, and four inserts for the first four preamps 1010lt looks like two pres and all of the other connections are unbalanced (RCA). It also has midi, and s/pdif. Aark 24 has 8 i/o 1/4 jack...

    Signal chain question.

You need a special insert cable. One end will be a TRS plug and the cord on the other end will be an IN and an OUT jack. Hold on, let me take a picture of one for you... Okay, there ya go. You plug the TRS into the insert jack and the I/O into the I/O of your compressor. In effect the...

They sell them as actives, too: http://www.musiciansbuy.com/yorkville_ysm1p_studio_monitor.htm The plusses of having actives is that the amps are perfectly matches for the speaker. I still need to get rid of these m1s and pick up some yorkies.

If you're looking in the high price range, you may want to check out some ADAMs. http://www.mercenary.com/adstudmmon.html I haven't heard them, but I've read great things about them. On the other hand, I've also heard very very very good things about Genelecs, too. You might wanna check...

Thanks for correcting me on that. I made a (wrong) assumption based on price per channel. What about the Brent Averill stuff? http://www.brentaverill.com/neve_pre/ He's selling "Classic Neve Pres" for $1100. He's got his own stuff for $1000.

Haha. You better believe I did. That's why I was kind of confused. I do admit that 3500 is a little bit more than 1k... Something new to look into. The only problem I see with this is that it's two channel. That means the quality will be more around 500 a channel instead of 1k a channel...

In search for the Golden Channel (C'mon you pansy!)

The problem (I have) with Neve (or other big name) clones is that I have no idea which 'live up' to being a clone and which don't. It makes things confusing. Bu apparently the Vintech 1272 is a good one? What would you compare the Sebatron to? (I already have Mercenary bookmarked, I go...

Thank you Michael for playing along. I know a lot of people that have been here for a long time just gave up on doing any of these cause they get asked so much. I don't even know yet, I haven't gotten that far. I figured I'd spend a grand on a pre before I spend a grand on a mic. I'll...

See. I knew I was going to get this response. Let's say then you get to choose a pre (I lied, I said channel trying to sound all cool when I really just mean a pre) that can be up to 12 or 1300. What would you like? Why? Link me and let me read about it. It can actually have EQ or not, I...
