They look all look exactly the same. The CTM-1000A is NOT a CAD mic, although designed and manufactured by them. So if you order from guitar center or musician's friend, you're going to get Astatic mics.

Can't comment on the DI of this thing. But you can buy a radial passive DI for less than $150 with a Jensen transformer. I've built passive DI's with Jensen, Lundahl, and Cinemag transformers and they all sound great. If you had a good sounding preamp, I buy a transformer balanced passive DI...

They use XLR, but generally no phantom. MOST cheaper condensers that retail for less than $1000 don't warm up anything, just impart strange peaks throughout the frequency range (often in the upper midrange which makes them sound harsh). In general, a $300 tube condenser will sound much worse...

Got everything working! Thanks so much for everone that chimed in and kept me going. mbrebes's tip on the pin 4 to pin 9 voltage solved my problem. Fired it up and initial indications is that it's a nice, thick sounding mic. Will do comparisons later. The schemitic link at the top now...

I finally got a glowing tube yesterday, and my voltages seem to be reasonable. However, I knocked a wire or two off the tube socket when putting the body back together. Now I've got no glowing tube again. I'm using a different power supply in case your wondering why the plate supply is higher...

Fixed the direction of the electros in the schematic. I had them in correctly, though.

I don't think my C8 is polar. It's a big Ansar.

The output voltage of the power supply is 106V @ B+ and around 20V at the Variable Voltage pin. I'll check out C2 and see whats there.
