I'd like to do some M/S stereo micing and I'm therefore checking up different figure-8 mics (also multi-pattern mics). I recently found out that RODE has a new mic out called NT2000. I also know that SP has its C3 mic (also a multi-pattern).
Is C3 comparable with NT2000? Which one would work...
Hi all,
Just finished the first step on my basement homestudio 3 hours ago (see picture). It'll be a 23 sq meter basement studio. It's now one big room, but I will cut it in two (ctrl and studio room). I will also remove a wall (to a storage room) next to the big room, which will be the vocal...
Oops, maybe you actually can change the stereo width during mixdown with X/Y as well--using the PAN knobs... But I don't know if that's the same as changing the level on the SIDE channels with M/S???
First, you only need 2 mics for M/S (1 figure-8 and 1 cardiod). However, you can substitute the figure-8 mic with 2 cardiods. Thus ending up with 3 mics.
One advantage I see with M/S setup is that you can change the stereo width during mixdown. That's not possible with X/Y (you'll have to...
Yeah, you're probably right Harvey.
What's the easiest way of detecting/verifying phase problems, on for instance drums? What do you suggest Harvey, I really would like to try it if I get the chance of testing this mic.
Yes, it looks weird, 12 membranes and so on.
Wouldn't the phase cancellation be worse with two cardiods. I mean, the capsules must be much more closer in QM12 than one can achieve with two regular cardiod mics (like SM-58s).
My homestudio isn't up and running yet, but perhaps I can manage to...
I really don't want to use three mics for my M/S recording.
It looks like only LDs or ribbons are my options. The reason I don't want to use a LD or two cardiods as figure-8, is the size and the configuration with stands etc...
Except for the M-130 mic and also found another option that I will...
Thanks for your answers...
So there aren't any SD figure-8 mics under $500???
I'm going to find out the price here in Sweden for the M-130 ribbon mic. Maybe that's the best one. The SP mics... i don't know. I was more into a SD or ribbon.
Which one is the best figure-8 mic of the three...
Can anybody recommend a good, solid figure-8 mic for less than $500, please?
I want to test and try out some MS stereo micing on drums, acoustic guitars and maybe vocals.
The problem is that I can't find any cheap (<$500) figure-8 mics. I was thinking on getting a SD, but maybe a ribbon will...
It's a DDA DMR12 (english made) and it's huge (over 2 meters in width).
Below is another pic on the console. BTW: I didn't attach all the cabels correctly, 'cause buss 5 goes to buss 3, buss 3 to 7... and eh. Have to fix that.
I'm about to build, soon, my first home studio... The pic shows me putting together my mixing console (I had to take apart it in order to get it down into the basement;-(
First, very nice song and mix.
There are two things I perhaps would change:
1. Stereo image - I think it is too wide, at least the drums. Did you say you were using a samples? Maybe pan the drums less left and right, if you understand want I mean.
2. Lack of energy - It feels like there is a...
Does anyone know how well the AD/DA converters stand up against, for instance, MOTU 1296?
I'm planning on buying the D2424 within a month or two. Is 24bit/48khz the highest resolution if I wanna use all 24 channels?
Thanks.
Hi,
I need some advice on audio interfaces for my upcoming home studio.
Here are my requirements:
o) At least 8 ch analog in
o) At least 16 ch analog out
o) 24bit/48khz (96 preferable)
o) LED meters (at least for the inputs)
o) No mic pres (my beautiful analog mixer has 32 mic pres)
In the...
Calculate the resonance freq.
First, I'd like to thank everybody for all their comments and suggestions.
Ok, I'm still not 100 % sure what to go for. I still think I'll need a vented floor.
Is it possible to calculate the resonance freq. (standing waves?) if I for instance have 70 mm (about...
