    Mixing classical guitar?

I'm looking for advice as to how I can make my classical guitar recordings sound better, given that cheap cheesy equipment is all I have to work with. Even if the improvement is so small as to be almost imperceptible, it's still improvement. It's learning by doing. Thanks, I'll look for it...

    Mixing classical guitar?

Yeah, well anyway... To further clarify my question: How can I get the best sound with what I've got? or: How can I use processing and effects to get the best sound from my existing system, cheesy mic and all? Please don't tell me I can't enhance my recording with what I've got: even a...

I've seen references to "wet" and "dry" mixes, tracks. et al. Would anyone care to elaborate as to what the terms mean RE music recording? TIA Denis Without the bag

    Mixing classical guitar?

If I may be so bold, I would solicit tips, comments et.al. as to recording a classical guitar (played fingerstyle, for the most part)... I'm using Cakewalk Home Studio, Sound Forge 5, a cheap mic, and a 550 Mhz AMD system. Mostly I'm interested in how to make the guitar sound better by...

anyone using amd 1.2 with cakewalk?

That may be true, and I hope it is. However, my problems didn't surface right away, so I suspend judgement until... uh, well, until later.

Working too many long hours with stereo gave me mono

I remember reading somewhere that recording stereo with cakewalk (audio) can cause problems, and that it's preferable to record mono. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? I sure don't... maybe I should cut down on my opium den time... TIA Denis

anyone using amd 1.2 with cakewalk?

My suggestion: do NOT use a SOYO motherboard, and do NOT use a VIA chipset. I'm running a measly 550Mhz Athlon, and the board and chipset has been more trouble than it's worth.

    Programming?

I've seen the word "programming" used in these forums. What does this mean in relation to recording and/or MIDI and/or synthesis? Thanks, Denis

    Ram

The Sultan is correct, of course. Proper configuration and maintenance is crucial when trying to squeeze out that extra mile, so to speak. I always spring for a good utility and virus package when buying a new PC, even if I have to sacrifice software I really like for a while.

    Most Over Rated Guitarist

Jeff Beck? I read an interview where he said something like he's a better auto mechanic than guitarist. Still, he's done some nice stuff with some great musicians.

    Most Over Rated Guitarist

Oh, uh, let's see... I'd say it;s a tie between Eric Clapton and Jerry Garcia... no, wait... maybe Carlos Santana... or, wait... Peter Frampton (although who ever thought he was good anyway? I don't know).... I watched a cable show on BRAVO yestrerday about Clapton. Man, that guy actually...

    Most Over Rated Guitarist

Wow, deja vu all over again! Are you sure you're not me? I took seven years (or round about that) of classical lessons. My teacher was pushing me to apply to New England Conservatory. Looking back, it's a laugh: unless, of course, I was actually that good, in which case, I'd have a good cry...

    Ram

You didn't mention what your CPU is... P2, P3, Celeron, K2, Athlon? It's true that more RAM will improve performance, but the ceiling is really dependent on your processor. That being said, I've got an Athlon 550 with 128 RAM right now, and my next move will be a faster CPU, then more RAM. Denis

Maybe a dryer sheet will help?

You're probably right... I guess that because I used Sound Forge to record, that somehow the problem might be to do with SF. I posted that when I was really tired... good excuse, eh? As it turned out, the problem was with play back. RF interference? Alien abductions? The answer lies DUNH DUNH...
