Yeah, Toronto still has a pretty good scene, in my opinion. In the late 90's and early 00's it seemed to be mostly urban music but it's swung back to indie rock it seems lately and more hipster stuff. But even back then, when my alternative rock band was gigging and hip-hop was the big thing in...
So you make electronic music? And pay to lay down tracks? Yikes.
If all you use is the Motif, why don't you record your own stuff on the Fostex? Learn how to use it, you bought it, what else are you going to do with it?
Don't understand your last question about adding percussion...
Is there a reason you want a mixer?
I'd just go with an audio interface.
MIDI is not synonomous with USB and Firewire, FYI. MIDI transmits note information, not audio, USB and Firewire can transport MIDI, audio, etc. They are file transfer protocols.
Some radio stations seem to really try to encourage homegrown talent, the Edge here in Toronto most definately comes to mind with their CASBY awards and such. Others are just extensions of larger media conglomerates and follow their broadcast instructions (Canadian content doesn't necessarily...
For whatever reason this 5 year old thread was bumped lol anybody reading it thinking about the MV vs MPC should most definately throw Maschine into the mix, it makes them both look like antiques.
At the risk of getting into another copyright argument, I think the major factors in the fair use argument are whether or not the material was created spontaneously, like not as part of a bigger collection and whether or not the material is being used in a educational institution by a teacher or...
I would gladly be labelled a sell-out if it meant I could make a living off music. The way I see it, it's a means to an end. Say lightning strikes and I get some contacts through some random beat I cooked while I was bored. That snowballs into a successful urban production house. That gives me...
Not much to add myself, but just wanted to say I'm really enjoying the conversation and thanks to Chibi for the GS link, really cool to hear stuff from the man himself...always been one of my favorite producers.
So what...I have two of those consoles in my spare bedroom
Just kidding, seems like you might have some cool tips and tricks to offer us home hobbyist types, glad to have you here :)
Curious, what does the job of "head technical" entail? Same as engineer?
I'm on a PC, but I use an M-Audio device (Firewire 1814)
The M-Audio should have it's own mixer/settings program. You can actually access this through Reaper (assuming you've set up the card's drivers properly) in the Preferences menu. Can't remember off-hand exactly what it says but there is a...
I dig the synth that comes in at 2:10. It was just about that point that I was starting to get bored with it but that brought me back into the tune.
Love the drop at 2:43. I'd bring the drums in a little harder though, personally.
I think the percussion grooves pretty nicely with everything...
That wouldn't be the job of the mixer, would it? I realize it's just a fun contest but...real world, a mixing engineer isn't going to waste his time lining up a drum track...is he? Seems like a job to be done during tracking.
Congrats to the winners! The overdriven dobro was intentional...
The kick is more of a problem than the snare to my ears. It's all thud and no body or depth.
I'd give the snare maybe a little more in mid-high range for a bit more crispness.
Urrhgahghhh so many questions...haha jk, let me try and boil it down a bit
You have two audio interfaces...that could be a problem but if you're just using one as a MIDI device and the other as an audio device...they should jive with each other. In Sonar's preferences, you should be able to...

(No Tweakheadz is not my site FYI :laughings:)
I would assume most USB/Firewire mixers allow multi-track output to your DAW. Looking at the Yamaha mixers you linked to I honestly can't find where/if it says exactly what comes...
You don't need a mixer, you need an interface. Some mixers are integrated via USB/Firewire like the ones you linked. There's plenty of interfaces with 8 inputs for a decent price.

That's a good link with setups of all sorts from cheap to expensive. It's a...
You're worried about record label interest when you have absolutely no aptitude for creating music in any respect? Am I seriously reading this correctly?
First of all, you lied about your inspiration to create music...it wasn't "Oh I love music so much, I should be creating it, not just...
