Roland VS1680 to PC file transfers

If you use the VS to record in MAS mode only, you can use a program called vs2wav to transfer every single take and track into wav-files (16-bit). But you'll need an external scsi drive to transfer, a.s.o. You might try a search on vstransfer at the planet. the problem is that if you do...

    What is a Roland 1640???

It must be a 164-tracker that has no input - you have to buy a 2480 to transfer something by R-Bus... aXel

    compressor

But afaik, the RNC is a stereo thingy only, so you won't be able to compress two channels indepenantly - or am I wrong? aXel

    TC Triple C......please help.....

Well... I was in a friend's studio and it seemed really easy to me. You have to understand compresseion and the multiband stuff or you'll have3 some problems, but that may end up similar with the triple (though maybe a little easier through the 'style' setting that does your attack and...

    compressing a song

Yeah, you should rather try to compress the single tracks (or groups) first... A overall compression may even enhance a not blending sound... Very often it's the vocals that need compression to be kept from being buried in parts and then come out way too far... (you might try fader riding, too...

    Compression and vocals

I always record voice with comp/limiter, simply as I FEEL better... If you record 24bitty then you might think of not doing it with compression - you should have enough 'digital headroom'. But then DO NOT RECORD AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE... aXel

mixing while recording or after all tracks are recorded?

High! Being the most amateurish amteur among all other guys writing here :D, I think I can point out two sides: If you are not at a mature state of mixing knowledge / technique / musicality / imagination, I assume it is best to record stuff almost flat. Only then you have the possibility of...

    Compression Settings for Vocals

High! Without wanting to diss crosstudio, I usually use slightly other compression settings: I use higher attack settings, as I find that it leaves more power to the voice. As I usually do VERY heavy compression, I otherwise tend to get a very flat and dead sounding voice. The slower attack...

From a Newbie to other Newbies...

High Kevin! I understand what you are saying and to a certain degree you are right IMHO... but in others really not. IF you buy a midi keyboard that opens the world of midi to you, it certainly will not be worth to buy an upper-league thing. But if you ever plan to record some singing, you'll...

    vs 880 vxpanded

For me, yes and no. I own a VS880Ex (and a 1680) and kinda like both of them. To me there would be some major drawbacks in the plain vs880vx: a) only four inputs (which means: hard to do live drums!) b) no MTK (mastering toolkit). IMO the MTK gives the best compressor in the 880ex... The price...

    Simulating an optical compressor??

Thanks! It already sounds to me worth a try... I don't think I'll ever again build my own stuff -- used to try to build music electronics a while ago, but everything I built was REALLY noisy :D aXel

    Simulating an optical compressor??

High everybody! After reading a little in this article: http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/dec00/articles/adcompression.htm I had an idea and would be really curious if someone ever tried this: I imagine that it would be possible to simulate an optical compressor by doing two things: 1) Use a...

    Digital Drum Pads?

afaik, the Roland brains are a little sensitive to their pads but something like an alesis d4/dm-5/dm-pro will accept almost everything... AND it's cool for drum replacing, too! aXel
