    Basic Soundcard recommendations

I have the 2496 and it is great. Just remember she will need some decent preamps. I would recommend the M-audio fastrack if her PC has USB. It has a decent pre built in and it is easy to get running, plus it will be easily portable if she gets a laptop.

    Pro Tools Torubles

Which version are you using? Actually I don't think it matters. There is no way to route it directly. I think if you route the audio track (that's playing your midi) into a bus and then create another audio track and choose your bus as the source, you should then be able to record it that...

Windows Vista or XP Pro for Cubase SX3?

XP pro. Wait at least a year for Vista to be ready, probably more like 18 months. XP pro is completely fine.

    Midi File importing

If you are exporting as a midi file, when you bring it into a sequencer it will automatically match your projects tempo when you open the midi file in your DAW app. All midi files will do that. Just note your project tempo and change your project tempo in your DAW app and you should be fine.

If There's A Program That I Download Off Torrent Site And It Has A Serial Number....

There is a good reason to obey those laws. The government, whatever you want to say about them, still has the power and authority to cite you, fine you, and/or imprison you. I would love to hear you tell that crap to a judge.

    Pro Tools M-powered

Every feature for midi that I used in SONAR I found in PT eventually. If you need to get a project done before you can learn PT's midi than yes, go with SONAR and import the midi files into PT. You should go to digidesign's website and check out the accelerated videos there. They show you a...

    Pro Tools M-powered

First of all, I am using the audiophile 2496 with m-powered and I did not have that issue. You need to make sure that you are using the most recent drivers for the Audiophile though. The drivers that came with the 2496 don't support PT. The 2496 will ONLY work with PT M-powered, you would not...

If There's A Program That I Download Off Torrent Site And It Has A Serial Number....

Dude, regardless of if the torrent gives you a crack or a serial, if you are downloading software that you would normally have to pay for and using it for free, it is the Wrong Way To Go, regardless of if it works well or not. It is still illegal.

    Pro Tools M-powered

I would disagree with this. I use tons of midi on every project and it is every bit as good as SONAR or Logic (both of which I have used extensively). I am currently using PT M-Powered 7.2 and it has worked perfectly. I would agree that before PT 7 midi was slightly weaker in PT but that just...

another old timer looking for the right program, but using a mac

Logic Express would be the logical (no pun intended) progression from GB. You would be able to open your GB songs in it and utilize the same software instruments. GB's technology is all derived from Logic. There is a bit of a learning curve involved, but it sounds to me like you are getting...

Poll - how important IS 96 freq. in 24 bit system?

First I'd like to mention that the big difference you hear in DVD-Audio is largely due to the 24 bit resolution, not the 96khz sample rate. I am not convinced that higher sample rates will get you anything other than SLIGHTLY smoother high frequencies. Someone please explain how a microphone...

A Very Sad Story (You will cry)

Your latency is also going to be affected by buffer sizes. The lower your recording buffer sizes are, the lower your latency will be. You will have to hunt around your preferences to find the setting, but you usually can set it from 128 samples up to 2048 samples (usually 128, 256, 512, 1024...

    Played with Garageband today...wtf

Nothing is wrong with garage band really. The only issue I have with it is that it only supports 16 bit recording and not 24 bit. I love everything else about it but I only use it for songwriting because of this. I am really used to the dynamic range I get with 24 bit so when I do a full...

Which software you use to make audio recording

Why put it to bed? Sure, the poll itself is outdated but people still find it useful to sound off. I say keep it going as long as people want to use it. It's not like we're wasting paper.

    OS for Studio Recording

Properly configured, Linux can be rock-solid for recording, but you will find actual recording applications for linux systems limited. Red Hat is not optimal for recording but there are several Pro-Audio oreiented Linux distributions available. Ardour is good for audio, but it has no ability...

    OS for Studio Recording

I am a big mac fan, but I run both a Mac and an XP PC and neither of them gives me any problem. What you need to do is figure out which app you want to use for recording, there are a lot of great ones out there now for just about any budget. Once you do that, then figure out which OS to use...

    NIN Recording

Yup. If you have a properly configured laptop, you can do pretty much anything you could do on a destop nowadays. Laptops used to be underpowered because of battery life and heat, but newer processors have changed that quite a bit. Also, keep in mind that most acts you hear about recording in...

Anyone used Vista to create music?

People always say that as though it actually means something. The truth is that statement is only relevant in the most general sense, and all you are really saying is that XP was crap when it first came out. Is that somehow supposed to make us comfortable with crap? First, people are like...
