EV Speakers for Guitar Amps? Why Not?

Very clean but very heavy speaker. 18 or so lbs. Ina 1960 cab you are going to portage 72 lbs of speaker plus cab weight. I love the 12l it works well and is very durable yet very heavy. I own a single Mesa B extension cab with ev 12 and it is a great sounding combination with low wattage...

I'm looking for two mics (instrument and vox)

The SM57 is all around good choice, you can't go wrong there for guitar (elec). I follow the above opinions about a "large" diaphragm condenser for vocals. Even at the low end they are much more crisp and lively than the SM 58. As stated above I think they are the 57 in a ball end wind screen...

    Small 1x12 cab

I enjoy the Emery Sound cab. Quality build and uses a great speaker. I do have a couple 1 x 12's ( by various manufacturer's) that I use as single and extensions but do not forget that single 12's or tens for that matter are still going to create lots of SPL. I hope your furniture is bolted...

    Input signal distortion question

Check your battery. EMG's will distort output when DC is low.

Major Problems after Major Upgrade HELP!

Sorry to hear of our issues. It sounds like a hardware issue. I am a dedicated reaper user and have found that 64 bit mode creates oddities. I run Reaper in x86 mode on a machine similar to your upgraded device, no problems. I hope your van is not next to the MS river.

    So... am I doing good?

Very bright. The un-mastered version is (to my ears) smoother. I am in hte camp with Massive. To be straight-forward it sounds like some of my home effort using "ozone" I am not implying that you used it; it just sounds like things I have done (sadly) with that plug. Not bashing Oz just an...

Processing when you have multiple mics on same source

I am kinda with Miro on this one, however I do use two mikes often where one is the "direct" sound and the other "room" sound. It is just so easy to run into phase cancellation/comb filtering when using multiple mics be they close or near or far. I do place multiple mics up for the same source...

The Loudness wars ~ revisited for clarity...

New hobby, hmmmmmm. To be a smart-ass. Rhetorical moment: Is the art, music reproduction? I may be of the old school but the art is in the " reproduction". Back to the tamales.

    Swapping tubes in my amp....

I think the OP might be better off with speaker change. But if his tubes are truly toast go JJ. my .02. Was he not referring to a dual 6l6 amp? I just chimed in b/c I really like the YJ's el84 conversion for a 6v6 amp. Enough of that.......... Emery Superbaby!!! :) I love mine. No...

    Swapping tubes in my amp....

I rather enjoy the "yellow-jackets" in a drri fwiw. granted that is a dual 6v6 setup not 6l6. different adapters in my case. The above guys are correct and to the point. Tube rolling is dangerous habit. I will second the JJ sugestion.

How do the pros get that "modern" metal tone?

Yikes that is "interesting times". YouTube - Abandon All Ships - Take One Last Breath (video) I hope we do not have to live long through that.

    em field from tube amp

Thanks OC! Update: Head 12" from processing units and independent Mic pre-amp yields/produces little hum. Envision person twisting and listening to the output of a 45lb head with live input {limited} channel to monitors. Rotate, Rotate. Not bad. Will Try further. So far so good. To your...

    em field from tube amp

Hello all: Due to size constraints and overall economy of space (and convenience) I ask to you fine folks: Will the EM field of a marshall dsl amplifier interfere with rack mounted Comp (vla and older Quadraverb) if mounted close to one another? By close I mean 2.5" (inches). I need to stack...

    Mixing in reaper?

There are quite a few Reaper tutorials on youtube. Might I recommend Mix Engineers Handbook by Bobby Owsinksi, Mordern Recording Techniques, Reaper Power by G. Francis (probably very advanced for you at this stage but mandatory for Reaper users with exp. under belt). Reaper operates very...

    Good VST Parametric EQ

Thanks Moresound. Forgive me for falling off the original post but someone had to state it. The voxengo SPAN is cool, Ozone has nifty fft type thing, Reaper/JS very good and low cpu usage. I like the spectrograph (js) and one other ( i can't remember but it is available at the JS site). One...

    Good VST Parametric EQ

Oh you folks have sucked me in.......... If I remember, this thread was about a free/cheap vst eq plug-in. De-evolution follows: Very few have mentioned a product; instead this has de-evolved into something far from the OP. I joined this forum seeking information as to ways that I may...
