    Frequency Response and Kick Drum...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but kick drums hit at about 40Hz, no? I just got a hold of several mics, including an AKG D310, and 2 DS35s. They all have ranges of 60Hz+, but the DS35 says that it's bass is boosted within 12 inches. Does anyone know if this would work as a kick drum mic? Would it...

Alright, thanks for the input. I'm not looking at a particular amp yet, just kind of browsing.

    Behringer Amps

How's it going, everyone? Usually I'm a pretty big fan of Behringer, most of my gear is from them. My Behringer bass amp is supposedly 20watts, and it goes the volume a 20watt should. However, I've been looking into getting a bigger, 100-200+ watt amp in the near future, and everywhere I go I'm...

    RockBandSites.com

A while ago Microsoft did something where you could get a free .com, and they had payment options too, if you needed more space. It ended up very cheap even at the high price point. You might want to look into whether or not they are still doing this.

    recording my bass

What do you mean by crude? Does it sound like a fart on the low notes? I've had that problem before, too. Try cutting out the lows on your amp's EQ. However, if you mean crude as in fuzzy, that's part of the DI territory. (Direct input, pretty much what you're doing) I've found that using an...

The formula for a "hit song"

Do you think if I record a riff with this progression, and backtrack it in a chorus, my song will become successful? Think about it, it would be subliminally radio-friendly. That way it would be played on the radio, and die-hard fans (if I had any:/) couldn't accuse me of selling out because...

    Introduction and Question

My band really wants to record drums and guitar at the same time, because those 2 players need to play off of each other. What I've been doing is isolating the guitar amp, and giving the drummer the headphone out of the amp. Then I'll record drums while they both play. Then I'll do the same...

With that attitude, you probably aren't gonna get shit. I'd tell you what I recommend, but you don't want to hear what I use.

Home Recording Tips Everyone Must Have!

I wonder if anyone told him ahead of time they were going to be the Jonas brothers? Maybe they were muted during sound check.

Yeah, whenever I use Audacity through the line in I need to use Microphone. Line in registers as the headphone output on mine.

    Recording Troubleshooting

Sm57s have switches, don't they? Make sure it's on. Also, (again) did you make sure you're set to Microphone on Audacity, with the input volume up?

    Recording Troubleshooting

Did you make sure you're recording from "Microphone" with the line input volume on max in Audacity? I'm pretty sure the default is having the volume at 0.

    Freeware Audio Sequencers?

If you want something difficult, Traverso is supposed to be a good pro tools rip-off. (I can't tell my ass from my head in it though.) If you're looking for something different but fun to experiment with, try Jeskola Buzz. It's my personal favorite.
