Group Buy Preamps, Joly modded Ribbons, GT Brick

I'm looking to sell all four of my group buy preamps: Two -81s Two -84s I'm selling all four as a package for cost plus actual shipping (I paid $60 from CA to PA). Simply, I haven't even had time to use them and have too many preamps as it is. SOLD...

Group Buy Preamps / Neumann TLM49 / The Brick

I'm thinking about selling some, if not all, of my group buy preamps. I have two 81's and two 84s. I've only opened the box them, haven't even had the chance to plug them in - which is what made me think about selling them (I might keep one 84). So, if anyone is interested, PM me. Speaking of...

    Shockmount compatability

That Samson mount might work well, as long as the threads match up. The standard shockmount, ie MXL type, are just slightly too large and the Baby Bottle will slip through. There are several easy fixes, including just pinching it the clips that hold on the bands or some felt on the inside.

    Group Buy Interest?

My experience with shipping to Australia was this: UPS or FedEX will track the package as you'd expect; however, relative to USPS they are both WAY more expensive. EX: I shipped a package there that weighed much less than even one of the TNC preamps. USPS was $60. UPS and FedEX with shipping...

locking tuners + non-locking trem-- how well does this work?

In can work just fine if you take the time to set it up well: stretch your strings until they are stable, make sure the strings are not sticking on the nut, etc. Usually it will be more stable if the trem comes back to a fixed point, say the body, like the typical Fender. That doesn't mean it...

    Group Buy Interest?

Don't fret about it kids. My shipping still has a red no, but my preamps are sitting right here....all purty. I checked every couple of days and had all red no's. Next thing I knew I was told a big heavy package was delivered. Two 84s, Two 81s (I already have two Chameleon 7602)....and they are...

Male Vocal Mic (tube or not tube ;)

"Horses for courses" Unless you can improve your signal chain, I;d probably not pay a whole lot for a mic. I think Weasel9992 has a good point: ribbons are thick sounding. Also, a lot of people expect a tube mic or preamp to sound like something that it does not. Here's two mics I would...

    Daisy Chaining Mic Preamps....

All technicalities aside, the answer is simple: Try both ways and see what you prefer. In my experience doing this, I usually like both pre somewhere clloser to the middle. Sounds to me like this results in less noise as pushing one of the preamps to near it's max usually results in more noise.

    KSM32 Failed, Dead

The first thing I would have done was call Shure. The second thing I would have done is follow their instructions. The third thing I would have done was post about my positive experience with Shure on this board. Call Shure.......good luck.......

    Blue Bluebird, KEL HM-2d?

I just took a better look at the kel mics. Obviously they are made by 797 Audio in China.....same as Studio Projects. You can tell by the pic of the HM1 - the capsule mount and dual PCB board is 797. WIMA caps.....like Studio Projects. Not a bad thing at all though as they are nicely made mics...

    Blue Bluebird, KEL HM-2d?

My advice is that you should use your eyes for things visual and your ears for audio. IOW, that's a nice offer but it won't mean a thing....you have to listen to a mic on the source you are recording. NOBODY is going to be able to tell you which mic is the right one at this point. Personally...

    Blue Bluebird, KEL HM-2d?

I would NOT consider any of the SE mics for that singer except the ICIS. Kel's advice is interesting. Obviously they know their mics better than some guy listening to MP3s of them on the web (me :) ). I can understand their point too, the HM-2D is a bit mid forward without eshiness. Still, that...

    Blue Bluebird, KEL HM-2d?

Listen the the Kel HM-7U over at JoWillie's site. Now, before you do listen to various mics, the Kel is not JoWillie's voice, which is an awesome, gigantic VO voice. The person doing the Kel has a smaller voice, still good. I have only heard the Kel from this site....just tonight. That said, I...

    Oktava 219

Well, maybe as Marik suggested you can take out the four front screws and get the resonator disc off that way.....or unscrew them a bit and snip the disc. Either way, IMHO, there is NO reason to unscrew the center screw; simply use wire cutters to snip the disc and off it comes......it's that...
