I'm already looking at a few of these mainly for drums:
there's the new M-Audio Octane 8 w/converters based on the DMP-3...

just click on "details"...Uh! for the details if the detail page doesnt come up.
I know the DMP-3 was popular, but how does M-Audio rank in their converter quality?....I know it needs to be heard, but...
would the b-5 be a better choice for hi-hat recording, say over an mc012 or the mxl 603?..or even that ECM8000 currently being discussed?
which would you reccomend?...Any experience?
Justin,
I appreciate the offer, but I suspect the same problem with the the plastic threads becoming an issue in the replacement (I have 3 B-1's and they all do it!)...It seems if you guys are offering free replacements, you could use that extra cost to put in metal threads in the first place...
Malcom,
I'm closer to the beach here in southern California, we rarely have humidity problems. a marine layer and moisture in the air from the ocean at times, but from what others have pointed out to me it surely must've been that small amount of time I sang a scratch vocal (false-cetto) that...
Re: Re: *******UPDATE!********
hey kid,
it was your advice that originally helped me to over come the sagging clip thing when I bought my first B-1. now that I have 3 mics, the thread thing has no rhymn nor reason as too when and where it works. quality stands or not! those plastic threads...
*******UPDATE!********
OK,
Well I got my new B-1's I ordered and decided to remove my moist B-1 out of its week long quarantine. isolating it with a few silica gels seemed to dry out that finiky little bitch!....
if indeed that was the problem "moisture" than so far, after a small vocal...
I was thinking of getting two for toms, to replace my mackie 1202 vlzpro from those duties. my Great River remains my main pre as well as the RNP. do you think the the DMP-3 would be a noticeable upgrade compared to the mackie? also what tracks did you end up replacing with the Avalon?
while I admit I didnt use a popscreen this time, I am absolutely stunned! to think this mic is incapable of handling such a task...halfway through a one take, scratch, false-cetto/whisper type vocal performance. If this is the case maybe I'll cancel that order for 2 more (as I was going to use...
i think $1000.00 is not bad at all. Great River did raise there prices not too long ago but made up for it with a year warranty (if I remember correctly) I bought my ME-1NV from a local store that I do buisness with at an unheard of price of $939.00 new. at the time they were going for $975.00...
thanks to all who came with the spirit of aiding a fellow musician. I like my B-1 BTW.
I'm a pro singer with a very powerful tenor voice and in all my years I have never damaged a mic by just singing into it, be it up close intimate, backed off and powerful, expensive or cheap mic..
I simply...
Thanks all especially for not crackin!
Yes, its the Studio Projects B-1
the mic is about 4 months old, it never has left the studio, it was my mono room mic which I just tried using on a tom (thus the reason for ordering 2 more I liked it their) I've been keeping it in its mic bag and pulled...
My B-1 is trippen right now! first i will say I've always defended this little gem, treated it with kid gloves (as I do my MC012's), and never dropped it or had any accidents with it.
I ruled out the mic, pre's, the cables, and my other mics. it's definetly the B-1 (I just orderd 2 more last...
