...To position your mic inside your kick?
I've noticed that "for the most part" it seems wherever you position it it basically sounds the same. certainly an advantage for a quick set-up, but I do find it a bit of a bummer when trying capture a different sound...I've been using a speaker mic on...
I have a great river ME-1NV $1000.00 an RNP $450.00, Dmp-3, $149.00, Rane MS-1b $135.00, and a few others.
I think the RNP would work better for you if vocals were your priority and then accoustic guitars. I have some wanna be tube pre's (ART Pro MPA, dbx 376) that are in the same class as the...
sorry, sometimes you have to start at the basic possibilities. lets review:
when using one sm57 phantom power button is pressesd out. (no red light)
if a 57 and a condensor mic (603's, MC012, M179, AT3035, etc) are being used at the same time, then the Phantom power button is pressesd in...
actually it goes for $150.00. I think he was making the point that it breaks down to $80 a channel. (though you cant actually cut one in half, its a way of showing its overall value)
I dont want too add to your confusion, but since you mentioned a budget of $500.00 let me throw 2 more options at ya!...
since your motu 828mkII has 8 additional channels of ADAT/Optical. have you thought of either the digimax LT or the M-Audio Octane? both are 8 channel mic pre's with very...
Zbert,
i use an audix D-6 into a great river ME-1NV and thats pretty fat. however, ywo things that are giving me a huge kick sound have nothing to do with that set up. I built (for $30.00) the recordermans 8" speaker mic fo the front of my kick (it goes through a crappy tube pre dbx376) and it...
honestly, for $99.00 you'd be better off buying the Yamaha mg10/2 http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=20115&Category=Mixers it has 4 nice sounding mic pre's (better than Mackie) it has 2 inserts that can be used as seperate direct outs (on two of the channels) and the other 2...
$500...Yikes! I had been trying to sell mine locally for $350 and couldnt get any takers. ebay was running at about $250-300. at the time!
Here's your problem IMO. the NTK tube mic is a very nice sounding mic for male vocals. it really adds all the tube character needed for a vibey vocal track...
the 376 has a less hotter signal in spdif mode than when its in analog mode, so dont let that fact confuse you. to the ear it appears it sounds better in analog due to its hotter level (it very well might???)
the type IV conversion system also has a very soft limiter (thats not controllable) I...
"strange" being not the same universal screw size normally found underneath the majority of half/1/4 rack units. which is the same size as rack screws.
not hard too find, just not laying around when you need one!
two problems I found when trying to rack it:
strange screw size underneath the dmp3, not the normal universal rack screw size. believe it or not a screw from a standard plastic AC plug wall plate (though appearing long) fits all the way up inside the unit when afixing the dmp3 to a universal...

The Pro MPA is dark and muddy and when used on many tracks you get that mid range/honky/haze/mud thing going on. the box can be used for some interesting distortion effects by running a signal through both channels at once and tweaking with the tube drive.
if ART gave the option of a...
