    guitar drop

If you MUST drop it down, you could try a Morpheus Drop pedal. You keep it tuned to 440 and select how many steps you want to drop. It works, though if you toggle back and forth to standard, you will notice some minor tone & volume change. But if you can set it and forget it, this might be the...

    Really thin guitar sounds.

Metal players love that mid scooped sound, but you might be surprised that there is still certain mids that are in there. Guitars are midrange instruments. Even 4 metal heads. Dial up some and see.

Biggest reason for music biz crash???

I hear a lot of people talk about the "3 years ago" thing citing the recession. I'm just not seeing the recession being the problem. Having teen age kids and knowing their friends I would have to say the #1 reason is kids STEALING music off of P2P sites. I don't allow those programs on my...

Decent power amp for PA speakers

Damping factor is another thing to consider. Older Crowns can give you a much tighter more responsive low end. Also consider the fact that digital amps won't have the over heating issues that the older monsters will.

    Tube Mics, vs FET Mics

Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time, but I think the recorded vocals are crap. Mind you it was 1972 and most vocals sounded that way. I have never used a tube mic and I'm curious what users would say. Most use a good tube pre, so would 2 tubes in front of vocals get the hot modern...

Help! I blew up my amp head.

Look at the board. Look for burn spots. Look for melted wires.Try new tubes. If you don't find any clues it might be shot. I doubt if it's worth the cost to have this thing repaired.

    UGH solo'ing...

If it were me, I would sit with the track, listen to it, then try to come up with a solo tune in your head. Then transpose it into the guitar. I understand that you may not be able to think up a "shredder" but maybe it's better to stick with melody rather than 300 notes per second. I'm a...

    Witchhunt

I can't say too much about the mix. Laptop speakers. As far as the construction. I think there is too much space in the intro with the guitars holding notes out too long. I would add a riff or cut it down a bit. Hint: unless they are a guitarist, most people want to hear the goodies. That is...

Mac or PC.....WHO GIVES A CRAP....

It might just be a way of sizing you up, not actually caring which you use. College students and techno geeks tend to be Mac (and quite liberal) as perpetuated in modern universities. PC users tend to be seen more as do it your self-er's who don't follow collegiate protocol (and normally are...

Can someone recommend portable technology for playing bass with recordings?

Vox has some nice little units you plug right into the bass. Headphone outs and even an mp3 input. I'm thinkin they have a bass one now.

    Can you name this mic?

I agree. Remember prop mics can be used in videos, so I would not buy what you see and expect to get the same sound. In fact a Nuemann U87 ran through a crappy pre won't sound all that good.

Best microphone for recording vocals/dialogue for under 100$?

Don't be afraid to look for a used mic. $100 might just get you something decent if you are patient. Craig's list Ebay Home Recording.com has a place for that too!

    mystery mic shootout :)

What I heard was a clear crisp sound with body on mic#1 Bright and a bit harsh on #2 Flat , weak & dry on mic #3 The MXL Mogami surprised me. I have never even heard of the others. I'd like to see more of these shoot outs from other posters. It's easy to brag about 1 mic and bag the other, but...

    Audio Technica must have's

I bought a 3035 to have another mic for vocals, yet I still keep going back to the Blue "Bluebird". Awesome mic for recording anything.

I'm not big into amp sim plug ins EXCEPT for the Ampeg SVT one. It does the job like majic.

    Rhyming lyrics

about 99% of all songs have rhyming lyrics. I have always been a fan of Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros, Solo) and he has this strange ability to make lyrics work in a song when nothing rhymes. He is a master at melody. You would do yourself a favor as a writer to at least...
