Great explanation stevie!
Just a few more notes:
Analog recording involves sending an electrical signal representation of sound waves (created by a microphone in most cases) through wires to create physical representation of said waves in some medium (be it grooves and bumps on vinyl or...
Another thread in this forum might help too ;) Once you find your way around, the search function is a great tool on these forums - there is a fairly massive back catalog of recording info

Woah. That's so cool!
Indeed, unfortunately it's hard to find all that time while working and going to school...it may take longer than 2 weeks...but someday I'll get it!
You could do a combination of what the two above posts said. Using a KVM switch (look them up on newegg, they're cheap: ~$30) and then making sure the computers are networked and dropping the files in a shared folder.
OR
You can set up a VNC server on the internet PC and connect remotely with...
Nice notes about the cello. As I'll be playing more with the girl who perform in this song (and is singing) I'll be sure to try them out. I actually did use a tiny Naint for the close mic :). I found that the room mic gave it more body and i have the volume pulled pretty far back anyhow. Kinda...
Awesome, Rayc. Thanks for such an in depth response. Alright so,
(first off I'm pretty new to EQ'ing things to sit well together, so feel free to make fun if I'm doing it all wrong)
- Recorded the cello with a Large Diaphragm Condenser about 4 feet back and at shoulder level and a Small...
Some of you senior members just amaze me. What ARE you using to record the drums?
Also, in retrospect to an earlier poster, I think the solo is perfect. Just enough. With the song moving 100 mph in the background, the drawn out notes are a nice contrast.
I'm also a big fan of all the ambient...
When you say guitar....do you mean Acoustic? Or are you looking to mic and electric guitar cab? I'm gonna assume acoustic. If you're just starting out, I'd agree with these guys and say definitely go with a condenser. Personally, I'd go with a Large Diaphragm Condenser for a few reasons:
- Good...
UPDATED LINKS IN MY FIRST POST.
Sorry about that everyone. When I transfered this from my laptop to my new computer, Reaper would no longer let me Render it. So I had to bounce it out to a WAV and then didn't have an audio converter on here to make it an MP3...Anyway, now there's an MP3 version...
Mine said that too. I think it's because Echo Reporter is so old, and computers use PCI-e mostly now...so maybe theres a different type of PCI BIOS. Anyway, I'm running a Firewire Mackie Onyx Satellite and it works just fine using ASIO drivers.
Reaper all the way! Wayyyy back in the day I did some songs in Audacity, then tried to work with Cubase for a while, but ever since I found Reaper there's no turning back
Well, after reading the "Click Me" thread, I've decided to rename mine in hopes that I'll attract some of the more experienced guys to listen.
Anywho,
This is a song that two friends wrote and my brother and I helped flesh out into a more full sounding piece of work. Lemme know what works, what...
Hello all,
Two of our friends came to my brother and I with a rough piano riff and some lyrics and asked us to produce it for them. This is what I've done with it so far. Lemme know what works, what could use more tweaking, etc
Side Note: At the time of the recording all I could manage with...
So, my friend (the female vocalist in the song) wrote the lyrics for this and I wrote the music (my brother wrote the mandolin part).
I've got it somewhat mixed, but am at a point where I think something is off...but I can't quite tell what.
Lemme know what you guys think...
You never cease to amaze me danny...I like this version better than the original. When are you getting signed again :P But really man, just keep putting your stuff out there and people will notice....haha, just got to the trumpet solo = YES! that's great.
Well, you should be alright on power to tell you the truth...You don't really need anything special if you're not running like SLI or an intense gfx card. Just read the reviews and make sure it supports quad core and what not.
Get whatever windows version you can find thats cheapest (as long as...
