    Squeaky Clean Amp...?

Ampegs can definitely give a nice clean tone, I used a VT-22 (100 watt-2 x 12) back in the 1980's but I had to use a power attenuator to keep the audience from going deaf. And the fact it weighed 95 pounds made me decide it wasn't a keeper.:( A Reverb Rocket might be a good alternative. A...

what in god's name is this bizarre wave form?

I would have to agree that its from a low frequency outside source-maybe some kind of comunications in the airwaves. The waveform sure looks low frequency-but you would need an O'scope to figure the range.

Using the EMU 0404 USB soundcard with Win7

I've been using the 0404 soundcard for years with Win XP and as my laptop is having issues I'm planning on a new laptop soon. The website says that there is a beta Driver available for the USB 0404, I wanted to know if any of you home recording people out there are having luck with this beta...

Blue Shower (Fader Lube, Whatever you call it)

Contact cleaner is much easier on switches than Blue Shower-Blue Shower is used on circuit boards that have been corroded and its pretty acidic, it will melt away the corrosion . If the switches have any plastic in them it tends to melt them, and don't get it on your skin!

    Crate GT-80 amp

As this is an 8 year old thread I imagine the amp is long gone unless the OP solved the problem. Those Crate amps did have crappy jacks in the effects loops. ocnor and arcaxis are correct with cleaning the jacks and checking the jacks with a patch cord.

epiphone sg g-400 'custom shop' ?

The DiMarzio I mentioned is a good replacement-I wouldn't go with p'ups that are too hot-they can sound muddy if they are too overwound. Greg mentioned the P-90s which are very good as well-I have a Les Paul Melody Maker from 2003 with a single bridge P-90 and with some overdrive it screams...

epiphone sg g-400 'custom shop' ?

Hey suprstar, it might be that the pickups in the custom shop guitars are upgraded-I have an Ebony G-400 and its a great gigging and recording guitar. I have replaced the stock bridge pickup with a DiMarzio PAF Pro and I can split the coils for more variety in the tones. Some people complain...

    Guitar Neck Thickness

You might go to a music store that has some lefty Les Pauls and try one with the 60s tapered neck-they are somewhat thinner than the much bigger 50s style necks-before shaving that neck. You can then decide if the different feel of the 60s neck would actually be the one you are looking for. I...

2011 Les Paul Goldtop Traditional Satin 1960

Quality control definitely seems to be an issue with lots of Gibson guitars, and at their price its a damned shame! Those fret issues should not be found on the sales floor-it should not have gotten by the inspector. I have noticed a lot of Gibsons and using the baked maple fretboards, I bet...

A Ballad in 3/4 Jazz Waltz: "Moments"

That's a very mellow and enjoyable song, the rhythm almost has a bossa nova vibe going on there...:)

New Song - 35 Miles Til Vegas

That song is sounding quite nice Dave, what guitars are you playing on the tune? Only thing I might add is some keyboards, synthe or organ maybe-just a suggestion. I'm hoping to post a new song soon myself-its probably been years since I've posted, just need to find time to clean up the rhythm...

The new Les Paul chambered bodies

I found his video on the Music Zoo site, it looks like the chambered Les Paul bodies are getting a bit carried away! The 2nd one looks a lot like swiss cheese.... The Music Zoo: Inside A Gibson Electric Guitar - YouTube

    Saw Peter Frampton last night

I would love to see Frampton live, just recently I got some of the early Humble Pie live albums and was impressed how Frampton had his signature sound way back in the early 1970's! He is very unique and original and that Bowie Glass Spider concert is a definite must see video.

    Microphoning Guitar cables....

Yes, send it back. It sounds like it has a bad solder connection to either the hot or ground connection of the plug. It is faulty and should be replaced under warranty!

    Easy way to learn guitar?

When I started learning guitar I was lucky to have some friends that were quite a bit older than I was and they had been in bands for years. They had some great guitars they let me play so I was able to get the feel of a quality instrument with a good set-up. I was into rock & roll but they...

    Gibson SG-12 string

The molex connectors are an easy way to snap the switch and pickups into the circuit without waiting for the worker to solder the wiring together. My Epi Les Paul has these connectors and I haven't had any problems.

Feel Your Love - feedback please

Very nice Gerry, the harmonized guitar parts add a really cool character to the tune. It brought Gerry Rafferty (Stuck in the Middle with you, Baker Street) to mind as soon as the vocal harmonies came out as well. You definitely have a knack for happy songs! Congrats on a great song.

School me on acoustic guitar strings

Very good point, one of the members in my band has a 1950 Martin 000 that they string with light gauge strings. It plays like a dream-one of the easiest playing Martins that I've played-and is light as a feather.

Why two heads are better than one - My Collab w/ Mixmkr

Its an interesting tune Kevin, it reminds me of some of the group Ambrosia's stuff from the 1980's with a David Bowie sound in the vocals. The drum beats seem subdued and not as out front as I would like them-just my opinion. Good stuff.
