Calling Harvey Gerst / Vocals / Room treatment

Yeah I currently do that with vocals as well.. I'm curious though if having two of the exact same vocal take recorded on two different mics at once would be effective.. rather than recording a second take that is slightly different. I imagine the results would vary.. sometimes being slight...

    High-pitched whine

Interesting.. I'm curious if this might be a problem with your pc somehow, like comparable to say alternator whine in car audio.. How old is the pc? Are you saving tracks on a seperate dedicated audio drive, or are you saving sessions on the same drive pro tools is running on? Do you use a...

    Triggering and sampling

Here's what I would do.. I would analyze the good Kick drum with beat detective to extract the groove from it.. get a rough recording of your second kick drum and quantize it to the grid with no swing, just straight %100 quantized to the grid.. then apply the groove you extracted from the good...

Calling Harvey Gerst / Vocals / Room treatment

I already have the SE reflection filter, but something I didn't think of was setting it up that way with the boom angled down and the mic upright! I think you might have just solved a big problem I've been having.. although I'm not sure.. the Nuemann shock mount has caused me to have to keep the...

Metal Pop filters.. Good? Bad? Irrelivent?

Make's sense.. That's pretty much what I have been doing, so I'm glad you posted that.. it's good to get some validation from time to time on these things.. I need a bigger mic stand, the shockmount pretty much keeps my boom at 90 degrees, so now I have to jack the stand all the way up instead...

The Best Budget Mic for Female Vocals?

You know.. to my untrained ear.. I found the ksm32 to be a bit too warm maybe.. which I like on males over the 3035.. but I felt like I liked the 3035 a little bit better on ol' inola strings if I heard correct was what I believe her name was.. then on the song I thought the ksm32 sounded...

The Best Budget Mic for Female Vocals?

Well after a nearly cardiac arrest inducing fiasco with FedEx I received my u87 today and.... HOLY BEJESUS!!!!!!! I'm sure sorry it wasn't a good match for you.. that is really a shame cause WOW.. it worked phenominally for me.. My official opinoin is that it is not overated at all...

Metal Pop filters.. Good? Bad? Irrelivent?

So with the last mic I aquired I got a metal pop filter.. I'm curious if this would cause undesirable results, or if it would introduce any change to the way a vocal is picked up.. I would just a to b them but I handed down my old sponge.. Any advice?

    Which microphone?

You are brave to pose that question without the details friend.. If you read some of the threads in here and the "sticky" thread at the top you would know what I mean.. you'd better either provide the specific details quickly.. or duck... what kind of recording? Vocal? Instruments? Both? /...

    Has Anyone Compared an AT3035 w/a AT4040?

I have the 3035.. which I guess now is the 2035 now correct? It works great for me.. I love this mic at the price.. I have very little experience with the 4040, I recorded two verses with it at a different studio, and so my comparison is poor.. but I can say that I didn't notice a huge...

Calling Harvey Gerst / Vocals / Room treatment

I don't have any fiberglass in the ceiling, but I do have a glass desk in the room.. I understand this can be very counterproductive.. Will throwing blankets over the desk be enough, or should I take the desk out?

Excellent!! Thanks very much for the advice, I very much appreciate it! I will incorporate those suggestions and see how that does.. I can imagine that would help greatly.
