    D12e another problem

Hehe yup :) , but these dang mics are getting harder to find so I'll have to put up with it! I bet it was the wires connecting to the actual XLR (in the plastic). You gotto take the whole thing apart to get at that so I didn't bother...I was just looking for obvious stuff. EZ fix replacing...

    D12e another problem

Weird, I pulled out the XLR to make sure there were no loose wires, there were none (that I could see) put it back together and now it works. Something weird, but obviously not the diaphram.

    D12e another problem

Sorry for the million questions, but this studio building gets complicated  I bought a AKG d12e and it sounds like your hitting a teaspoon against a tin pot. That is if you crank the gain...if you don't there's no sound at all. So the obvious troubleshoot is to turn on phantom power...

Ok Dumb question about SP C4's

I'm testing some SD mics against an el cheapo Apex SD to help me decide which way to go on my upgrade. Using the exact same mic technique on an acoustic (one bridge one neck in stereo about 1 ft away) the c4 came off real dead sounding in comparison. None of that crystal clean high's you get...

Hi end mic vs Chinese mic question

I appreciate the points fellas...and believe me it's helping me alot. Even the arguing is good :) I should add a few points: I think I'm pretty lucky with the room. I sent the dimentions and contruction materials to aurlex and it fit within a foot of their simulated ideal dimenions. The room is...

Hi end mic vs Chinese mic question

Thank you for that DJL, that's what I'm looking for. I am/was a bit worried that the digi002 converters might be a choke point, but I could always rent/borrow until I can afford the upgrade. But if qualiy mics will make a difference from the get go, I'd prefer investing there to start.

Hi end mic vs Chinese mic question

The singer records very well. He has a higher pitched voice, but a real smooth top end - never shrill. Actually I should add he has amazing tone and is sought after for an extremely wide range of studio work. I don't know why he even wastes his time with me hehehehe - I think he like my tunes :)...

Hi end mic vs Chinese mic question

I'm having trouble making up my mind on a couple of mic purchases I'm about to make. A little background first: I'm building a project studion for my band. Sound wise the room is an 8/10. It's properly treated and sound good. The system I'm using is PT digi002. The band gear is all top end -...

Why would you use a "channel strip" while tracking?

Using a channel strip while tracking is used to warm up recordings that are digital. The mantra (as told by me by a grammy winning producer) is : record flat when working in analog, and vice versa when going digital. Personally I know squat, I'm just parroting what I've been told.
