british sound- try spirit studio ( budget soundcraft ). nice eq, and the pres distort really nicely!! i know what you mean about the mackie. i still need to use external pres for some vital stuff but the really are a much underrated console. try and find a 16 channel one. you can probaly pick...
hey , ihave the mpx1 and the pcm 60 and the pcm fucking rocks!!! must have been used for all those awful 80's snares. its great. the 60 is better than the 91 by along way. perhaps you could find somthing in between the two, like an old pcm 70?
i would feed the pre in to the 10-10, and moniter the output ( send it through the aux on the return channel strip). this will be fine with your latency. it is always wise to moniter post recorder anyway for many reasons ( too many to list)
This way,i expect, will sound slightly better than...
what is the latency like on the 10-10 ? the two points of using an external mic pre are to have a higher quality pre than that in your console and to bypass the long signal chain it takes to get your console pre to your multi track, unless you are using a certain pre for delibrate colouration...
a/b ed them on vox a while ago, through sony dmx pres. sm57- ok. sm -58 piece of shit, no place for any of these in any studio i'm working in. keep them for live.
hey, i'm moving my studio into a smaller room, and have a major space problem. At the moment i'm using a 24 channel spirit studio. I've run out of inputs on this anyway ( don't like using the moniters as inputs) and was thinking of using two cascaded o1v's. That would give me 32 analogue inputs...
i've got one. bitch to program. quite rewarding when you know how. bit over-rated.
If you buy it prepare to switch it on and say 'is that it' then spend hours a decent sounding patch.
why has only one person mentioned akai s5000/ s6000? fully expanded you can pick them up cheaply, and you've got 16 outs, 256mb ram, and an excellent display, which you don't really get on the emus. The difference between the akais and the emus is the fillters. don't look at the z seris akais...
i've never used the eclipse, but i've used a pcm91, and the reverbs are amazing. the pcm 81 has less revebs and more effects. i'd go lexicon but get some opinions on the eventide.
on an old alesis midi verd i have (2?) if you turn the input up full to distort the adc, then put the (now digitally distorted sound) through program 102 (a ring modulator i think) it sounds crazy
give the guy a break. hes starting a project studio and wants to get enough stuff together to start doing some decent recording. not everyone can afford to go out and buy all the gear and building materials in one go.
