I just located that mic in sh store and bought it for nothing...
when I checked it Ifound that I need ca.60 db(!) in my preamp to get vocals with it.
though I guess that with bassdrum this won't be a problam I still wonder if that's normal?

You might be the first person who ever tried to sing through one, so i don't know! Does sound like a lot of boost though.

It was designed for kick drum, eventually replaced by the D112. There are many who claim the original is far superior to the replacement, but opinions differ.

You may want to send it to AKG and get it checked out. The repair price, if any, may be worth it, seeing as you didn't pay anything for it - and you'll have a classic mic in your collection and be the envy of all your friends!:D
 
some people sing through them for a 50's vibe, cos it sounds really bad. worth a try though.
