Thanks for the reply. I'll get back to my mixer when I can to describe the noise.
SM48 (also EV ND468s) XLR to the Mackie. Channel insert to the Zoom input. Tried a few channels on both, same problem.
The SM48 barely registered at full gain on the Zoom, which isn't a problem I've had with the...
Hey all,
I'm getting a lot of noise through my Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro's XLR jacks. I need to use it because my Zoom R16 interface won't push enough gain for an SM48. I have everything plugged into a powerstrip so I don't think it's groundloop. Has anyone else used the VLZ Pro stuff? Are they just...
My name is Melvin (usually). I'm a vertebrate from Ohio, USA. I started writing and recording music (if you can call it that) at a very young age - a hobby I inherited from my dad who did the same. Our home studio consisted of a Roland D-10 Synth, an early version of Cakewalk, a Yamaha 4-track...
Thanks for all the great comments guys. Call it cheating, deception, illusion, processing or whatever term fits your discourse or philosophy best. I just want to clarify I'm writing an article for school about what non-musicians expect a recording to be and what they actually are. (No comments...
I'm writing a home recording blog post for a class and I need some input.
Can musicians use digital recording and editing to "cheat" by making them sound better? Is copy & paste, pitch correction, or even overdubbing - cheating? Is it fair to present the listener with an "unnatural"...
Hello home recording community,
For a project, I need to do write a blog and crowdsource stories through the comments section. Unfortunately, no one else in the class is into this stuff so I'm asking if any of you could to stop by the blog over the next few weeks and tell me what you think...
Beware: The guy drumming for us spent 2 years at ICB (International College of Broadcasting) in their music production program... he can't run a mixer, mic an amp or do anything. It's mostly his fault (he's a stoned loser) but he was saying his class size was about 30 to 1 with one mixer. He got...
You already bought the computer but...
I record 2 channels at a time on a Pentium 4, 512RAM computer. Tho after several tracks with effects, I'm pushing about 40% processing power (so sayeth Sonar 7).
Just remember, since it's just you and you just want to do a vocal and keyboard, save some...
Hehe. I suppose it adds to the danger and excitement of the recording, so yes.
But since most recording studios use ProTools anyway...(I called 10 studios in my local area to find out their equipment, they all use ProTools), that's not the piece of the puzzle that's holding anyone back...
If I understand you: Your mix sounds good in monitors but the bass is too much in other devices?
Most non-reference speakers, amps and all commercial stuff boosts your bass. Pro recordings sound great thru them, listen to the same song thru cheap earbuds and the bass is almost non-existent...
I never thought I could reproduce a professional studio quality sound, but with some practice - and some pirated software - even cheap equipment (cept for mics) can give you a bright, high signal-to-noise ratio recordings. Software compressor/limiter and most effects still suck, but the pure...
<-- PC User. Explain "Staticky". Humming? Distorting?
If it's humming- Goodluck. Finding a hum is not easy. Could be a 60Hz sine buzz in your computer, the cables, or the coolbox. Could be EMF disturbance. Mics can be sensitive to that, that's why people believe you can find ghosts by using a...
This is a really old post, but still.
DI is hard for me to manage, but I do DI for guitar and bass to save my mics to use for the drums. Necessity, but I also get 0 bleed on drum track.
Most people are saying Behringer amps are crap, but look at the value -
I bought my Behringer bass amp for cheap. 12" speaker, can get decently loud, not the best bass amp ever, but good since it's just a practice amp.
The next amp up in my price range was a Fender practice amp. More...
I just got my Alesis Linelink yesterday, so it's still in testing, but so far I give it at least one thumb up. Beats the line-in jack on brightness, with a slightly higher volume too. I still have more playing around with it to do. Next stop, firewire AI.
Buses have their own outs, right? I dont have a mixer with bussing, but say I did and I had multiple Alesis Dual LineLinks, could I route 4 mono channels into 2 USB ports? Sounds plausible to me. Lemmi know what you think.
Correct. From Alesis 8USB specs:
"Routes 2-channel stereo main output and 2-track return to computer".
Which is actually the most simply put any mixer has given on their specs.
Like I said, you want multi-track, you have to go firewire (I was pretty sure some USB did it too, but I guess...
You need a firewire port on your computer. Not optional.
You need a firewire audio interface device... but not for under $200.
Any of those would work wonders for stereo recording. Go cheap. You might want to expand later. Save your money. I use a hand-me-down Mackie VLZ-1402 > Alesis...
I was taking a look at your Audiogram 6, looks like it only does stereo. You wont be able to do more than 2 channels with hard pan left and right.
A multi-out USB (M-Audio FastTrack 4 channel) but usually Firewire (PreSonus Firestudio for example) is what you need for more multi-track.
You...
