I've been using a Studio Projects VTB1 Mic Pre with an SM7 and a Beyer m500 ribbon.....plenty of gain and very decent sound...careful not to over use the tube!
I have a few mics that I use and recommend for vocals: an old beyer 500 ribbon - you can probably find one of these uses.....a shure sm7.......and a pair of shure sm58's that have had tab funkenwerk transformers installed by mercenary audio Mercenary Audio - AMI TAB-Funkenwerk (TAB V-78 Mic Pre...
I bought an Art a few years ago and never could get it to work quietly......sent it back and they gave me a new one, but I never did use it.....so, I have a 2 year old (out of warranty) Art Mpa Gold that's never been plugged in....the original one was not quiet, but had great sound when used...
.....thinking of a Studio Projects VTB1 to pre a shure sm7.....I have an Art mpa gold sitting idle, but I like the looks and ease of use of the Studio Projects pre....until now, I've just been using the pre amps built into a Tascam 2400 mk ll, but they are just barely adequate for dynamic...
I use a shure sm-86 for a vocal mic in my p.a., but have never used it to record.....it's a bright and clear vocal mic and would probably work well for recording vocals, but I like to use a beyer ribbon (m-500) for recording.....afraid that the shure condenser could be too harsh....
Shure sm7b arrived today....haven't had a chance to do anything but connect it to the p.a. ....guess I'll find out this weekend if the pre-amps in the Tascam 2488 mk ll are enough or if I'll need to use a pre-amp between the mic and recorder.....anyone here using an sm7 into a Tascam without a...
I need a new vocal mic too......been using a beyer m-500 ribbon and I'm very pleased with it, but I'm thinking of ordering a shure sm-7b....I've always heard that they're good vocal mics; just thought I'd like to try one out for myself....
I an NOT a fan of sm58's, but with that said, I use a couple of sm58's - converted by mercenary audio and love them....they're a great choice for vocal recording.....I also like to use an old Beyer m-500 ribbon, but they're out of the original poster's $150 price point.....recently, I've been...
I seem to be stuck in the past; adding microphones that I used in the 70's to the collection....this EV PL95, an akg d-1000, an EV re50, a sony ecm-22p, and a Beyer m-500.....now, if only I could find an "inexpensive" EV re15
I just bought an Electro-Voice EV PL95 on ebay, but I know little about it....from what I've read, it seems like it should be a pretty good vocal mic for p.a....I currently use sm-58's with tab funkenwerks transformers....might even be a decent mic for vocal recording...any information or...
.....at a recent musician's co-op concert in greenfield, massachusetts.....someone had a camera running...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gakUtEkKXok
I had the same problem when I was using a dp01-fxcd.....cured it by buying a pair of Behringer mic-200 pre-amps.....they worked very well, but when I sold the dp-01 and replaced it with a 2488 mk ll, there was no longer a need for mic pre-amps for increased gain....
I have used the Sony ecm-22p mics for recording acoustic guitar and have had good results.....these mics have been in my collection since the early 70's...
....having just upgraded from a dp01fx-cd to a 2488 mkll (I know these are only similar to the machines you mention), I'd recommend sticking to the 24 bit 788......2488 mkll's can be found at a great price since the 2488 neo has replaced it.....I'd spend a few extra dollars and look for one of...
I've had great success with a pair of them in micing acoustic guitar....nose to nose at about 90°.....not too close to the guitar!....actually best about 24" away and pointed at the 14/15th fret.....one of these mics also works well for fiddle..... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7214241...
