Moving up from C1 and Rode NT-1

I'm a little suprised no one listed the Rode NTK yet. It did a GREAT job on a tenor vocalist in the last band I recorded. I've used it in the past mostly on my tenor sax. I tried many other mics in this application and was suprised by the warmth. Take this recomondation with a grain of salt...

    Amp suggestions

The Hafler TransNova Amps are passively cooled so there will be no fan noise. It's a really good amp for the money, especially if you can score one on Ebay. As far as most specs, I can't be certain what to look for- I just went with my gut and my ears. I do know the wattage "game" can be...

    Amp suggestions

I like my hafler p1500 for monitoring. It won't be enough juice for a live show though - well maybe if it's a smaller gig with really efficient spearkers, like Bagend TA5000's. Good Luck

    Sennheiser e604 = e609 silver?

Hi all, any chance these mics share the same capsule? I'm looking for some tom mics but the extra versitility of the e609 would be handy for live gigs. thanks!

Do you guys gate to make the tail end more abruptly?

    Snare Verb

Hi all, what type of snare reverb do you use? or better yet, do you use a reverb on snare? How do you set it up? with a gate? if so, how do you set the release. I don't need brands of plugins, more like what type; i.e., plate, spring, hall, etc. (I'm cheap and hope to get use out of what I have...

    Subwoofer Question

I have/had the same problem. I found tuning the room much more effective than using a sub. Some bass traps will help a lot. Try www.foambymail.com to save some money. Good luck,

Samson Audio C01 - bad or not bad.

The C01 was my first mic. I was younger and easily influenced by magazine reviews - ever notice how they're always positive?$?$ It was usable on voice and sax, but I quickly out grew it. I found it had a big ugly peak in the Hi Mids that I could never EQ out - the "China Character" I suppose. I...

    Trumpet mic

I don't know what these go for used, cause I know new they're over your budget, but check out the Oktava ML52. It's the only application I keep this mic, but it's really good at it - to my ears at least.

    Trumpet recording Preamp

I'd check out the RANE MS1B. Barely any extras, but a good solid sound. BTW in case you're looking for a mic too, try out the Oktava ML52 if you can find one cheap. I thought it lit up on the brass instruments last I tried.

    Reverb in final mix/master stage?

I did it once, but after trying every other option to get everything to gel. It was early in my learning and came to realise I recorded every track poorly as I remember. I don't believe reverb on the master bus to be common, but I'm of the opnion: "What ever works..."

    Old obscure mixers

I'm mostly just looking on ebay. I came across this a few weeks back. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7313891903&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1

Thanks for the info on D&R. Do their older smaller mixers hold up to the same standards?

    Old obscure mixers

I've been looking into older mixers lately in hopes to get an additional cheap 4-8 channels of decent mic pre's. I've stumbled on these obscure brands. does anyone know anything about them? Hill Audio Seck Wheatstone D & R just wondering if time has forgotten something good. Any other obscure...

TL Audio 5051 Ivory 1...just bought!

I have a HHB Radius 10 which is a rack of 4 of your preamps, but no extras like gate or comp. I have to say, I really like it. If this is your first step up piece, I think you'll get a lot of life out of it. I do agree about the "drive" light. It's not bad distortion I'm hearing but general tube...

"Breaking In" headphones & monitors--any truth there?

I'm pretty sure it's snake oil, too. Since it's digital data, shouldn't it be ultra easy to compare the digital stream from a cut and uncut CD? They never post scientific analysis; why believe them? On the other hand, this makes all the difference...
