isnt backing off the mic a bit when you're singing a significant amount of dbs louder called good mic dynamics, or is there another way of doing it?

Dear Icarus... our best one yet

Jasgav - no recorded in normal studio fashion, i was saying during the "acapella" one that i posted its just all the vocal tracks and one of the room mics that was on the kit so you could hear the drums a bit too. Sixer - Thank you! Steve - you even think so during the full song? because...

My first ever logic pro 9 recording

To me it seems a bit all over the place, some smart panning might fix that. As far as the vocals go, they seem really dry and it doesnt sound like there is much compression or limiting on them... which that kind of music there's usually a shit load.

Why does garage band output levels so low?

check the export/bounce settings of each.. Perhaps cubase normalizes and garage band doesnt, in your case.

Pretty happy with this so far, but would like some outside ears.

Thanks Duffy! i agree it should come up a bit, and should be retracked so its not so sloppified.

im glad we all agree, reinforces my initial thought... they're argument about the bass is they love the bassline and its the kick/snare/bass are the drivers of the song. which they have that point... its valid... but i think they pushed it a bit too much. greg hows the EQ portion?

I am, but oddly enough i wanted it lower :P but the band over ruled me (my plan is once the vox are in im gonna sneak it down without them knowing) ;)

My mixes aren't sounding as loud and thick as professionally done songs?

seems like every time your sound wave is at its highest is when the "double kick" part is in... so i'd bring that part down in the mix a couple DB JUST during that part.. it will still be there and as long as it doesnt sonically change the song then you will get a few more DB RMS.

obviously no vocals yet, but im pretty happy about the mix thus far. does anyone think the kick is too loud? Thanks!!! http://soundcloud.com/seconds-to-september/song-4-april-7th/s-GJaJC

need help!!! -this song is being a bitch

The hi-hats sound like trash because of how much it was picked up off-axis by the snare mic... bad placement... the drums need to be retracked without the damn flams (i hate flams so much) ... and the toms need work and the vocals need to sit better... I feel like the faders arent solid...
