Ampeg 8x10"... What head to drive?

I *may* get a pretty nice Ampeg 8x10 for $200. What amp would you use to drive it? I play a wide range of styles from classic rock to metal to punk and blues. How do the Hartke Heads treat you guys? (I'd need to keep the price relatively low, either buying used to inexpensively new...

    Fruity Loops Filters

How do I apply a filter across many repititions of a loop? I.e. a filter that's LPF modulated that repeats after 2 or 3 loops. If there's a better forum, let me know.

    vocal harmony question

I'm not saying that theoretically speaking, the third and seventh aren't more important. I'm just saying that if you are playing/writing in a style that doesn't have to follow rules of music theory (i.e. rock/metal) then one should try out 5ths, 4ths and octaves. You'll say that octaves are...

Crappy sound on my bass. Why?

Some ideas to try... First plug bass into amp (does it sound fine?) Plug the bass and pedal into an amp (does it sound fine?) Plug a guitar into the pedal, into the mixer/soundcard (does it sound fine?) Make sure you are using the same "preset/bybass" settings. My guess is that somewhere along...

    vocal harmony question

I've never heard that... and I'm not sure how that would work. BUT... If you tune down it will. Example: You are tuned to E (standard) and the high vocal harmony is a G. He can't quite hit that note. Now, if you tune down to D, yet still "play" in the same key, all the pitches drop a whole...

    guitar and bass questions

I would just like to clarify for the original poster... As far as "tone" controls are concerned on passive basses (and guitars, too) all they do is reduce the treble of your instrument. Plug into an amp, play with your tone control at 10, then at 1. You really shouldn't hear any more bass...

    Who Plays What...

Look for the Magazine "Guitar Shop" from December 1996, I think. It has a huge article outlining his setup. (try e-bay???) The ironic thing is that when I started playing guitar and forming a band, I was big-time into Floyd. So... I thought that no matter what, my guitar rig was way to...

    Who Plays What...

I believe Matt Freeman plays Fender basses (Jazz and P-bass) and is endorsed by gallien krueger. I don't hear many effects in his playing, just a compressor/limiter (very well could be onboard the amp) to give a lot of punch and "immediacy" to the tone. Then go to town with a pick. ;) For...

    Just how bad are you?

Here's my problem. I can play legato strings of notes quite well, and I can machene gun a set of plam mutted notes, I just can't get them to work together. Picking a string of notes (that changes ;)) results in a nice mess of slop.

I want 4 track digital recording and 5.1 DD playback

So would I then need a Delta 66 (for 6 outputs, 5+1) and software to decode Dolby Digital? Is there someway to capture the digital audio and send it to a DD decoding reciever/boombox?

    Cakewalk Pro 9 and XP

Hmm... I have CW9, and I'm really not a pro by any means. Just some recording of demos, then recordings of my band. How much does Sonar run? (Did you acquire it ahem...legally? ;))

    Cakewalk Pro 9 and XP

I just got a new computer, and it (obviously) has Win XP. Are there any compatibility issues? Can I install it and expect it to work?

I want 4 track digital recording and 5.1 DD playback

How would I go about doing this? I like the M Audio Delta 44 for recording. Seems to get good reviews and it's within my price range. I also like watch DVDs on my computer and would like a 5.1 Dolby Digital equipped card. Can I easily install 2 PCI soundcards on a Windows XP machine? How...

Switching over a single coil pickup to a humbucker. Please help.

Basically, if the magnet is Alnico then yes it can "mellow" a little with age. If it's ceramic, then no, it's all or nothing. How many leads on the pickup? Of there are two or three, then just solder them in where the others were. (A bare goes to ground along with the ?black?) If there are...

Can I post a POD Question here?

Ahh... point taken, and agreed with. I thought you were just saying that a guitar should be played thorugh a Fender or Marshall. ;) I've never played through a POD, just read about 'em for recording.

    Double neck's are dead ?

It seems that nothing says pompus rockstar than a doubleneck. I mean that in both a good and bad way. Jimmy Page with his during Stairway is awesome. For most rock bands today, the single neck seems to be fine. (I've always wanted an Epi double neck... I love the sound of an electric 12 and...

Can I post a POD Question here?

It already happened... well, in a sense. Look at the enormus rack of the 80's. A rack system is really just a pre-amp/processor with a power amp going to a cab. What would stop someone from using a rack mount POD, to a decent power amp to a "Marshall" cab loaded with PA speakers? You are...

    fretless jazz bass

Yes, the open notes will have to be in tune to whatever source you are playing with. Generally, when one says they want a bass/guitar that plays in tune, they mean from fret to fret, as some cheap import guitars don't spend much time on fret placement. This is a non-issue when talking about...

    Whats needed for computer?

Phantom power is for condenser mics. The preamp level expected into the soundcard is just a little higher than the output of a guitar. If all sliders are maxed on the computer and the guitar is at 10, you will hear it.

    Guitar amp combo

Marshall does make their JCOM series in combos, too. You can get 100W or 50W, and they com ein 1x12" and 2x12". See if you can get to a large store i.e. Guitar Center or Mars, or another place that stock a variety of amps. Play a new Head/cab and a combo. (That way you can hear how the 4x12...
