I agree for a live setting, as well as adding "acoustic" sound to rock tracks. I agree for intimate live performances and recordings focusing on the acoustic.

    Formula for "twang"?

So, let's say one has a bright S/C guitar, say a Tele or Strat. How would one set up the rig/effects for some twangy country licks? Clean into a clean amp by itself just sounds like a standard S/C clean...

    Home recording acoustic and vocals

Alright... this is what I'd do... ;) You have a guitar with a pre-amp, sweet. That will get you a certain type of tone, now you need the other type, the mic'ed acoustic tone. I'm seeing two signal chains: 1.Guitar Pre-amp -> Processor -> Soundcard. 2.Mic -> Mic Pre-amp -> Processor ->...

Help installing pickups and my volume is acting strange

Yes, that's what I was getting at. I'm not sure that it will work (not to familiar with EMG) but I know they are advertised as internally grounded and not needing a physical ground on the guitar.

Help installing pickups and my volume is acting strange

Do you have/have access to a multimeter? That will verify that the pot is good. Do you still have the bridge ground connected?

Help installing pickups and my volume is acting strange

Try disconnecting it. It *may* work. If it does, I'd go with a 3-way switch to have better functionality. (Or connect the bridge to 1 & 5 and the neck to 3. Then you get: Bridge, B&N, N, B&N, B.)

Help installing pickups and my volume is acting strange

Good point, all EMGs are internally grounded... (So basically, are you using all EMG components, are you using an EMG circuit and what is the control style of your guitar)

Help installing pickups and my volume is acting strange

What is the resistance of the pot? (It's the "ohms" number, maybe the greek letter Omega) For EMGs it must be somewhere around 25K ohms, not 250K or 500K. How are you wiring it? Is it in a Les Paul style guitar? If so, do you want one volume control to be able to act as a "master" when it...

!!!Make old bass strings new!!!(read important)

Freezing: I think that rumour comes from the cryogenically frozen strings. That's like liquid nitrogen temps, so you can't do that at home. ;) Breaking Bass Strings: My friend broke one when he was doing his crazy slap and pop. They were probably super light strings and I bet they may have...

    Hamer guitars?

They're probably like most companies. The USA models are probably comparable/better than Gibson, and the imports are typical of that price range (think Epiphone, B.C. Rich, Dean...)

Clean tone is still slightly distorted

If it dissapears when you turn down the volume, then it is the high output of your Invader. If you have a multi channel amp, just set up your clean channel so it's at the proper volume with the volume knob rolled back a bit. Then turn the volume up when you switch to distortion.

    Acoustic Bass Guitar

THey are very cool, especially in an "unplugged" setting. Check out Alice in Chains "Rotten Apple" as well as the entire Unplugged album. You can't play metal with one, but you can create a great acoustic low end.

    Cutting a Guitar Body

It's not really that much wood you need to remove, right? They way I look at it, it's not an expensive guitar so just be real careful and I'm sure you'll do fine with a drill press. (although a router would work better)

My Saturday trip to Guitar Center

For your sake, I'm sorry that you live 30 minutes away. There's one about 10 minutes from my house so it's real easy to go pick up some strings when, at band practice, we realive that the last D strings in the house are installed on guitars, and one of those just popped. ;)

When do you use the middle pick up?

To clarify for some of you guys regarding the middle "out of phase" position on a Strat... A. It's just two single coil pickups in parallel. The middle pickup is reverse wound/reverse polarity. (So it is sort of out of phase, but the reverse winding brings it back in phase). B. This...

    12AX7 Tube - History?

I can tell you that it was an evolution from other tubes (bearing some sort of "12" moniker) but the only thing it's really "good" for is guitar. It's the most distorting tube in it's class. Other than that, I'll let the tube experts fill ya in. ;)

    Worst guitar tone ever

I don't know, Randy Rhoads' tone, while no where near the worst, is pretty bad. I always read about the Eddie vs. Randy comparisons from the late 70's/early 80's, and from a tone standpoint, Eddie's is leaps and bounds better. One tone that would be horrible for blues is Dimbag's, yet for his...

I play punk. What guitar should I get?

It's good to see that you are teaching yourself. :) With any humbucker, yes you would need the "Trembucker", it's a wider spaced P/U to fit the bridge of a strat. BUT, the Invader has those big ass allen bolts, and the field from those is so big that it doesn't matter... So basically, the...
