    Please critique my latest

Hi guys. I've been working on this tune for an embarrasingly long time and cannot be objective anymore. Please listen and tell me what you think. This is my first mix on my new DA7. The song is called "Delio" http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1730&alid=-1

    Sonar dropouts!?

It sounds like it could be either your CPU, motherboard or memory or connecting cables. If it works sometimes, and other times not, that could be a temperature sensitivity, which still points to the above. You might try spraying components with cool spray, and see if you can narrow it down...

    New Age Christmas for you

Mixmkr, I see what you mean about the midrange. You gave me a good key about why some of my mixes seem so midrangy. I guess I like those sounds in that range, and I tend to layer too many, and it builds up there. I thought maybe it had something to do with my mixer. That's what happens when...

    New Age Christmas for you

Mixmkr, Interesting you mention mid-range heavy. I already pulled out alot of midrange during mixdown. Anyway, here is a rundown of my setup for this song: Harp arpeggio and phasey string pad - Supernova Lead flute-like sound - Kurzweil K2600 (retrosiren patch) French horn - combo of...

    New Age Christmas for you

Pinky, Thanks for the comments. I intentionaly went for an electronic sound, so drums and bass aren't intended to sound "real". Of course if you don't like Christmas music, that will tend to color your opinion. Notice there are no sampled sounding pianos, guitar, etc.

    Yet another Christmas tune

I have two expansions, drum n'bass and sessions. I don't rember which patches I used from those, but I have a number of other modules I used. The lead on both was a Kurzweil K2600, the sound called retrosiren. Main carol of the bells arpegio was a Supernova. Most of the choir sounds are...

Not content to leave well enough alone....

Wow. That's a midi sax? It sounds to good to be midi. Maybe I should start drinking. :)

    Yet another Christmas tune

I heard alot of great Christmas tunes here and it inspired me to share my own. I won't burden you to go through my page, so here is direct links to two of my favorites: Angels We Have Heard on High http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2029/2029044.html Carol of the Bells...

    My Christmas Offering...

Phil, Beautiful. Nice jazzy feel to it. Silent Night is one of my favorite Christmas tunes. I remember you from mp3.com.

    Christmas music

Hey Sam, What a cool arrangement. I love the changes from soft to hard to soft again. I recognize the Helium Queen on my JV2080. That's the therimin-like sound right? The whole piece has a spooky quality to it which is very cool indeed.

    My Thanksgiving Christmas offering

Hey mixmkr, It sounds really nice. I like the choice of sounds and it really blends together nice. I don't know if they would play this in the elevator :)

    Now for something COMPLETELY different!

Boydrj, Thanks for the comments. Your point on the drums is well taken. I might play around with that some more. It is a matter of taste, but I guess the real question is do I go with the norm, or do I create my own sound. I guess it depends on your goals. I'm kind of stuck in between...

    The Road

Hey Pete, I don't think I can really add anything more than anyone else said. I can't say too much about the singing because mine isn't all that great, but I think maybe a little reverb might also help. In regards to your question about stereo field, if you have access to a sequencer program...

    Now for something COMPLETELY different!

Hi Pete, Thanks for the listen. Yes it is all sampled drum sounds. This was from a Roland JV2080. That was actually one of my easier tunes to complete. Everything just seemed to flow. I started with the bassline and it inspired the rest. Normally for this type of tune, a more synthetic...

Ive been working dilligently (Im on vacation)

Demnsia, I'm not going to restate any other observations, but I did notice a bit of hiss at the beginning, and to me, the vocals sounded like there was too much high mids, maybe around 3 to 4k, hard to say. Maybe that's part of the style, I don't know since I don't normally listen to this...

    Now for something COMPLETELY different!

Well, I'm surprised no one checked out Perpetual Waves. I think that is one of the coolest of the bunch. Incidentally, these are all done with REAL instruments which just happen to be synthesizers, played by real hands (mine). No step sequencing done here my friends. There was some minor...

    Now for something COMPLETELY different!

B.Sabbath, Thanks. I appreciate that. Anyone want to comment on the others? They're all very different from each other. I have alot of other tunes if anyone cares to know.

Thanks for the feedback TripleM. Actually my wife LOVES it. She swoons everytime I play it, but lyrics really aren't my specialty. Thanks again, and I took it exactly as you meant it :)
