The 2 tracks are titled "Starts with A Spark" Ft Buck and "Well Armed"......... I know myspace kind of sucks sound quality wise, but at the moment its all I have
Ok, Awhile ago I posted a thread called "First serious mixing attempt" along with a link to my...
Thought the mix sounded decent, maybe a little muddy. You might wanna EQ some of the instruments, I thought the vocals ducked the organ and one other instrument a couple times.
personal preference though really, I like keeping my vocals up front
^Thanks a ton man, that was alot of valuable info.
Yes I am recording and mixing in the same room. I am treating the room for the microphone not the monitors, I now realize that should have been made crystal clear.
Okay from what I gather, wood is better than carpet is better than concrete as...
^ Thanks for the help, I saw a pretty cool google program for drawing out rooms, I will try and find it and get a sketch up, your probably right, its asking people alot to try and picture the room.
Hmm, I actually had carpet on the floor for a bit and I thought it sounded better, than I read...
The Roxul R60 "rockboard" has almost the same specs as the OC703 and is sold for about half the price.
Im still kind of in between what Im going to purchase though because I hear alot of horror stories from people using mineral wool and ending up with fibers in there eyes lungs and...
Ok, I record and mix in this same room.
The room Im using (sorry no pics, I'll describe though), it's 10 ' x 12 ' x 7 ft ht. . . So the ceiling is very low. On one side of the room the top 3 ft of the wall goes back an additional 4 or 5 ft across the whole ten foot span......... So picture a...
Thank you for the reassurance. I really appreciate it, I was in the wrong direction completely
budget, 600 ish, if I can get a decent pair for that, if not I'll have to save up a little longer. And I need a power amp to drive these monitors as well right?
cuz I can only gather 800, and thats...
Ok, First of all Thank you for the replies, I really appreciate it.
dogbreath, I have actually been pretty happy with the sound coming from my current setup.... But I don't feel like im getting the most out of my mic without having a quality pre-amp to drive it (amongst many other issues I...
I record hip-hop vocals through a Rode k2, into an EMU-404, into Cubase.
My small home studio consists of one decent sized room in the basement, cement floor, wood panelled walls and a pretty thick ceiling.
I have actually had no complaints about the sound of the room, but my ears are not...
Recently I posted my first attempts at mixing, which were, well first attempts, sub par, not great....
But instead of a forum full of people telling me I suck and should go awy forever they ecnouraged me ....withouth losing thier honestly, openly critigud my mistakes and explain what I could do...
A) IMO/E, you'd be (far) better off with a RNP or something of that sort. True's P-Solo would be another step up.
B) Compression on the input chain isn't typical (no matter what the marketing guys say).
C) 2:1 isn't a horrible typo... 2:1 is 50% GONE. That's a lot. 12:1 is hard-core limiting...
Hey, I record hip hop vocals. (THIS IS A DOUBLE POST, ONE IN RECORDING FORUM, MODS MERGE THEM OR DELETE ONE, SORRY DONT KNOW HOW)
Right now my recording chain is a Rode K2 into the stock preamps on my EMU 404 USB 2.0, into cubase, plus compression, EQ, and sometimes Plug ins sprinkled in...
Hey, I record hip hop vocals.
Right now my recording chain is a Rode K2 into the stock preamps on my EMU 404 USB 2.0, into cubase, plus compression, EQ, and sometimes Plug ins sprinkled in lightly.
The thing is I just started recording about a month ago and I know there is more I have to learn...
Hey,
I have the EMU 404 USB 2.0 Interface and it is incredibly solid for the price. I am cranking the stock preamps to almost 30-40 db of gain recording vocals and its still all clean. Pretty good for stock preamps.
Direct no latency monitoring. Very cool.
48v phantom power. MIDI. Decent...
Thank you all for the advice, I now have plenty to work on before I post another recording.
Rayc- I will avoid myspace, soundclick it is. Unfortunately I got the beats as MP3's as I did not know better at the time. So yea, mono, guilty. I was indeed in a boxy room, I tried to treat it by...
^My sentiments exactly. No I dont think Im gunna be making 'commercial level music' with my prosumer rig, but thats more on me than the equipment. I figure I can keep playing with what I have untill I can get some good mixes.
Ive heard some damn good mixes using less than what I have, I know its...
hey,
Thanks for lookin out.
Im hearin everything you said. Learned quite a bit since I made this mix, Hopefully the next couple will sound better. Im gunna make sure I get tracked out beats that I can actually choose from next time, burn a couple CD's with the tracks on it during the mixing...
Now thats just close minded nonsense.
Find another name for myself and my kind of music... Well damn I did not know you were the official authority on deciding whats hip hop. The gatekeeper to an entire culture, must be a burden. By the way, You've been slackin lately lookin at things.
you...

This is my first real attempt at mixing (after reading countless hours).
I thought it went alright but obviously I can use alot of improvement.
I use a rode k2 mic through an emu 404 mixer/preamp into cubase.
Ha, THANK YOU. fixed it.
Sounds radio ready already. If I heard it on the rap channel tommorow it would not sound a bit out of place, or amatuer. (to me at least, my ears still require some training though)
Diggin it, lots of energy, good track to get pumped up too. Your Flow is right on point. only minor criticism...
