    Have Mixer or Mixerless?

I started out with a cheap mixer and thought it was great...until I realized how much better my recordings sounded when I just used my audio interface. I'm currently mixerless, but I'll go back one day when I get a much better (and bigger :D ) mixer.

    HELP, monitoring question!!

I had this very same problem...didn't even know it was happening until I started to mix :D ! The way you have it set up now, Cubase will record whatever audio that you're monitoring onto the track that you are currently recording. You'll have to send the aux output on your mixer to the inputs...

Recording direct in with Vamp2(do I need a DI as well?)

The Vamp acts as a direct box which converts the signal of your guitar into line-level...so yes, you can plug it directly into the line input on the Firebox. If you want to record true stereo, you'll have to connect the left and right outputs into their own inputs on the Firebox. If you don't...

    pick my next setup.

Also consider how many inputs you need to record at the same time. If you do a lot of overdubbing and don't record more than two inputs at once, a basic 2-input interface would be fine...and you can use a mixer to send all of your signals into the input(s). The amount of tracks you can record...

Simply connect the midi output of the Triton to one of the midi inputs on the MPC...same thing for input...midi input of the keyboard to one of the midi outputs on the MPC. Since the Triton does not have any built-in speakers, you'll have to connect the left and right audio outputs of it to the...

    im looking for good monitors?

Do you want passive monitors (cheaper, but require an amp to power them) or active monitors (more expensive, but have a built-in amp and don't need an external one)? I personally use Samson Rubicon R5A active monitors...other good ones are Behringer Truths, Mackie HR624, M-Audio BX8A, and KRK...

    Ready to be bashed.

Really awesome song...my only suggestion would be to bring the vocal forward in the mix. Other than that, really nice work!

Connecting Triton to line in of audio interface

A Y-cable will convert a stereo source into a mono source (2 inputs-->1 input). You can also connect the Left output of the Triton to the input on your computer. You will not get a stereo sound, but you can double and pan your tracks in your sequencer to spread the sound across the stereo...

    Tascam US-122 and midi

In order to hear the midi data, it must pass through a device that can generate sound (synths are the most common). It sounds like your keyboard can only send midi messages, not recieve them. The Oxygen 8 is only meant to control soft synths, which are triggered by midi, but produce sound that...

    Tascam US-122 and midi

Just looked up the Oxygen 8...it appears to have midi in & out as well as an audio output. You should have the keyboard connected to the midi in and out of the US-122, and then run the audio output (phones) to one of the audio inputs or directly to your speakers. This will allow you to monitor...

Firebox users.... is the Firebox pretty hot/warm after use?

Are you powering it by FireWire or by an external AC adapter? Sometimes more heat is generated when it's plugged directly into an outlet. Also check the manual and website for some information.

    Error: An exception has occured

Yes, remove all components related to the M-Audio and then reinstall them. If you're still having trouble, here's the FAQ page for the Mobile Pre USB on their website: http://m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faqs&P=6%3A8eb1a9920df341303f81bca7ff458be3&O=&S=&x=52&y=8

    Error: An exception has occured

Check the M-Audio website to see if you have the latest driver for the interface. Updates ocassionally contain bug fixes, etc. so you might want to look into that. If you do have the latest driver, try a clean install of the mobile pre.

    help Me!

Definitely go with the new computer...sounds great for audio applications! Although Guitar Tracks Pro 3 can handle up to 32 tracks, don't expect more than a few at a time with your old one. The soundcard sounds awesome for home-theatre applications and I'm sure it's great for music too, but I...
