    HELLLLLP......Hats are too F#@%ing loud

To me it sounds like you're hitting the hihats too hard in comparison to the rest of the kit. Maybe instead of laying off the hats, you could try hitting the drums a little harder? Regarding placement, I'd worry a lot more about having the snare centered than having the hihats equal...

Looking for a mic pre... Help!

No, I said; "I'm looking to buy something that's a keeper, or secondhand." ;)

Looking for a mic pre... Help!

I'd already decided against the RNP, because of the wallwart. I've got a pair of RNCs that are great for the price, but the wallwarts have fallen out on me before while moving my rack case, any my rack case is going to get a LOT of moving. I don't really want wallwarts floating around on the...

Looking for a mic pre... Help!

I'm not entirely sure yet. At the moment, it sits at about AUD$1000. If it comes down to it, I might look at single channel pres...

Looking for a mic pre... Help!

I'm looking for a reasonably inexpensive dual mic pre that can be mounted in a 19" rack for mobile recording. I'm not after cheap tubes - something solid state. Preferably not a wall wart. Two channels ONLY, with no EQ or compression. Any ideas?

Replacing the horn + woofer in a fried speaker... What to use?

I have a pair of Alesis Provenue 1201 speakers that have been fried, and am looking to use the enclosure, but replace the horn and woofer. It's a 12" woofer, and I have no idea about the horn yet. I'll start taking it apart tomorrow. What brands are highly regarded? What should I be looking out...

    live band setup

Down here, most music venues and clubs have a PA system that they feel is suitable for the size of the room. Some venues also prefer things quieter than others. As far as private functions go, I play in a cover band, and we get away fine with a Yamaha powered mixer - 400w a side, and 400w for...

Am I Headed In The Right Direction?

Thanks for the opinion. The panning is pretty conservative there. We're going to retrack the drums, and work out that first transition a bit better, record electric and synth, and se how it goes!

Am I Headed In The Right Direction?

I've got some tracks together for a song with a band of mine, and done a rough mix (with tired ears after a day of playing), and am wondering if I'm headed in the right direction. I rarely record anything more than band rehearsals for the sake of working on songs, so I'm a little intimidated by...

Snare Shootout - My Three Snares (audio)

Nice shootout! I'd recommend tuning the resonant head on the Saturn snare higher though. I have a 13x5.5 and 12x5.5 Saturn snares, which both sound amazing. I might do a shootout when my newest snare arrives...

    Vote: SM57 vs. Audix I-5

I've got to ask... What makes the i5 lower quality in your opinion? I generally prefer the i5 on my snare drum. It can take a fair whack from a drumstick, and the polar pattern is nice and tight. I generally find the sound easier to work with than that of a 57 too.

    Good, cheap glockenspiel

Sadly, cheap glocks generally sound horrid. Your best bet might be to try and get a secondhand one from a school, or something like that.

You might be plugging the wrong mono jack into the input/output. Have you tried switching them around?

Recording with the intent of triggering later?

I'd get a set of DDRUM pro triggers, and record using them instead of the mics. That way, you get the most accurate triggering. Otherwise, close mic them as close as possible, with as little bleed as possible. The actual tone doesn't matter, but the amplitude does. Or... If you want to blend...
