To me it sounds like you're hitting the hihats too hard in comparison to the rest of the kit. Maybe instead of laying off the hats, you could try hitting the drums a little harder? Regarding placement, I'd worry a lot more about having the snare centered than having the hihats equal... :eek:

Nice shootout! I'd recommend tuning the resonant head on the Saturn snare higher though. I have a 13x5.5 and 12x5.5 Saturn snares, which both sound amazing. I might do a shootout when my newest snare arrives...

I've got to ask... What makes the i5 lower quality in your opinion? I generally prefer the i5 on my snare drum. It can take a fair whack from a drumstick, and the polar pattern is nice and tight. I generally find the sound easier to work with than that of a 57 too.

Sadly, cheap glocks generally sound horrid. Your best bet might be to try and get a secondhand one from a school, or something like that.

You might be plugging the wrong mono jack into the input/output. Have you tried switching them around?

I'd get a set of DDRUM pro triggers, and record using them instead of the mics. That way, you get the most accurate triggering. Otherwise, close mic them as close as possible, with as little bleed as possible. The actual tone doesn't matter, but the amplitude does. Or... If you want to blend...
