    Hardest to mic?

    I have the hardest time with the overheads because it can take forever to get them set up right. Floor tom can be tricky, as can snare, but the overheads are so important, and so much harder to get right. Ive tried using just one sp b3 as overhead, but it just doesnt quite do it.

    Battery-powered 4-trackers?

    I have zoom mrs-4 that i haven't used since i built my DAW setup. It worked really good on batteries and lasted for something like 16 hours (i could be wrong) It was $250 when i bought it, but i think its somewhere around $200-230 nowadays. I would offer selling you mine for cheap, but its...

    Carpet

    We just got carpet put in our house and now i have extra scraps laying around. I have a 10x13x8 foot tracking room with an unfinished wood ceiling. I was wondering if its at all worth it for me to hang carpet over the drums (kind of like a cloud) to help calm down cymbals? I just figured id ask...

    Caught Up

    A song i did on my own. I did the drums with 2 joe meek jm27s for O/H, superlux fk-2 on kick, and no snare mic (thats why its so back in the mix.) Guitars were done direct through digitech or something grunge pedal, bass direct into mixer. Vocals were a shure axs-3, on one take (just fucking...

    Is 15W enough?

    Get a bigger amp, youll thank yourself later. Theres alot of good, medium sized, amps that are pretty cheap. Just save a little extra money, go to guitar center (or wherever) and try out what they have. I play loud, fast punk and I used to try and use a 15watt amp for practice and it just didnt...

    Funny faces while playing drums :D

    Check out the drummer from anti-flag. In every picture he looks constapated. Or look at Santana when he plays, its all part of the music.

    SM57 as Vocal Mic?

    Itll be fine, seeing as people usually use 58's anyways, and theyre supposed to be the same mic with a different grill.

    Caught Up

    I just recorded this the other day. I did all the tracks, and seeing as im not a drummer or a bassist please dont judge the song on the playing that much. I recorded the drums with 2 Joe Meek jm27 as overheads and a superlux fk-2 on kick, bass direct into mixer (mg16/4) and into delta 44...

    M AUDIO DUO & SAMSON MIC

    The samson co3 is a noisy mic, i dont know that its the m-audio pres. I dont have experience with either though, so take what im saying as regurgatated opinions, but i have heard very good things about m-audio pres, and not so much about the samson mics.

    let me see your studio!

    I'll have pics of my setup soon...hopefully that is. My "studio"/bedroom is actually a half finished basement with conrete floors, no ceiling, a 9x6 room that i sleep/mix in, and a 10x9 live room. Theres also a nice leaky pipe over my bed, but since my whole room is taken up by recording gear, i...
