We just got carpet put in our house and now i have extra scraps laying around. I have a 10x13x8 foot tracking room with an unfinished wood ceiling. I was wondering if its at all worth it for me to hang carpet over the drums (kind of like a cloud) to help calm down cymbals? I just figured id ask before trying, because i dont really feel like hanging it up if there's absolutly no use at all.

I tried carpet before, It really wont do much. If it is a thicker style of carpet it may help a little, but not much.

Those Persian carpets help quite a lot. It would help you cut down on echoes and flutters, as well as absorb some of the high frequency waves within the room.

I would get some acoustic ceiling tiles and place them over your drum area.

Personally I wouldn't waste my time or safety on overhead carpet.

For one it isn't worth a whole lot for what you want -

2nd - it's a fire hazzard - and should not be used due to the flame spread of carpet in that location.

Your best bet would be a 703 cloud overhead - but the suggestion for acoustic ceiling tile would help more than the carpet ever thought of helping.

Sincerely,

Rod

The weight of carpet dosen't make it very practical for hanging (like a cloud) over the drums.
