    frequency questions...

I work with samples a lot and to be honest I tend to process in stages. All before I settle on an arrangement. So I'll have flipped the sample several different ways - have my drums down (including breaks and drop outs) as separate loops (of varying lengths) and will then process my drums...

    Which mic should I purchase?

I'm still a bit in love with my SE2200 MKII. Trounces (IMO) other mics in the same price bracket.

    What about EV RE20?

There's not enough reviews of the Procaster to be fair... But at the price I'm regularly tempted to pick one up for cheap to try!

Multiple MIDI controllers for mutliple external MIDI devices (?)

Why do you want all your modules to receive all 16 midi channels; instead of setting each to recieve a specific channel?! I use a Kenton 5-Thru in my own rig... Maschine (my sequencer) midi out > 5-Thru (in) > 5-Thru (thru) > Korg ER-1 in (midi ch10) 5-Thru > BassStationII in (midi ch4)...

    Samples and Synths

I've been on that old school vibe again recently and after spending a couple months just messing with synths and grooveboxes I went digging for some vinyl. Made this. Unmixed and needs some arrangement tweaks but had my head noddin. https://youtu.be/VUT61PUXdPA

Couple guitar purchases - small budget.

I'm looking at the AM53 - slightly smaller body. Apparently, the stock pups are really good with flatwound strings.

    keyboard for studio

Assuming it has a MIDI output and your audio interface has a MIDI input. Most newer MIDI keyboard run from a USB cable. Does make things easy.

    keyboard for studio

If you're recording into a computer (DAW) then you'd be best served getting a load of useful VSTs (Komplete Elements could be a good starting point) and a midi-keyboard. A midi-keyboard (or midi controller) has no sounds but allows you to trigger and/or control the sounds created within you...

Couple guitar purchases - small budget.

He's pretty eclectic TBH... Skepta, Book Theives, Coldplay, ACDC, Justin Beiber, Trance... We've pretty much always got something playing in the house. I play a lot of jazz and soul records (sample hunting for hip hop) and dance music (anything from acid trance to jungle TBH) in the house and...

    Searching for My First Mic

On a low budget I'd look at the Rode M3. It's very much like the AKG C1000 but (IMO) better and cheaper. I've used it on acoustic guitar, vocals and hand-purcussion as well as a room mic for theatre application. It's very adaptable. I'd have no qualms in throwing it at a multitude of a sources.

    MXL v67 VS sE X1

Not used the X1 but I've used a fair amount of budget condensers and currently own a really like the SE2200 (MKII multi pattern version). It's outstanding in the price bracket.

Couple guitar purchases - small budget.

Also... Trying guitars out in store when you're not a confident player is really daunting... So lessons are gonna take place just because Saturday was embarrassing!

Couple guitar purchases - small budget.

I've been playing my acoustic a fair bit recently and would like to get more guitar into my recordings (I use a lot of samples and synths). My oldest (12) has been having lessons and has a cheap strat copy (Shine) which I've borrowed and frankly - it sounds bloody horrible plugged in so I'm in...

    Fender Rhodes Sound.

Had the day off today and the house to myself and started on a track. Decided early on that I needed a Rhodes-Type piano in there and used a Massive preset (I think it's labelled 'Original Rhodes'). Not massively happy with the sound TBH but didn't want to waste session time editing the sound...

Starting home recording with electronic kit

Just had a look at your kit online - You should be able to record the midi in GarageBand on your iPad using the Apple Camera Connection Kit and the USB cable that came with the kit... You won't be recording any audio though - just midi. The sounds in your kit won't hit the sequencer...

    Windows 10 upgrade.

It was stuck... Had to get a quick win7 update and try again - it's actually downloading win10 now... Fear sets in... Thanks for the reply Chili

    Windows 10 upgrade.

Couple of questions... 1) I've pressed the upgrade button and have been staring at a spinny doughnut and the words "Please wait" for the last 10 minutes... How long is it supposed to take; and why am I not being informed of its progress? 2) When it is done (and this could answer my third...
