    split personality?

Wow, I could have written either one of the previous posts myself. The similarities are truly strange. I actually started recording on a little Tascam 4 track, just as a way to document the songs I'd written. It wasn't long before I figured out that I liked playing this way and started spending...

    Drum Machine recommendations anyone?

I use the DR-770 and I love the sound I get with it. There is a pretty steep learning curve to get through because it has so much "stuff", but once you get used to it, it's great. The only thing that I wish it had was the ability to store your own samples. If you can get by with out that and...

    For all you Wintel bashers

After looking at that picture, I'd hate to be the one that made a fool of that guy. As far as I'm concerned he can run whatever OS he wants....

    A new one

Sounds damn good. I can't really comment on the mix because the system I'm on right now has a lousy sound card. But, listening to your guitar style and sound made me wonder if you ever listen to the band "Camel", similar style. I like it.

I think my pc has a stuttering problem!?

Yep, you can NEVER have too much memory or disk space. However, does this occur when you're just playing back without doing any additional recording ? The reason I ask is that I wouldn't have expected a defrag alone to make that big of a difference. If you're getting a skip while just playing...

I think my pc has a stuttering problem!?

I had a similar problem at a local radio station that I was doing some contract work for. They would be be recording just fine for a while and then the tracks would "skip". They didn't stutter as you describe, but they sounded like a vinyl record ( what are those ?) skipping. I double their RAM...

    how do these monitors sound

You're best bet is go somewhere that has a bunch of these set up for side by side comparison. Personally, I didn't like the Alesis monitors as well as the KRKs, but you may like them more than I did. I know that some people use the Point Sevens because of their magnetic shielding, handy when...

    sennheiser!!

Cool. I've been playing with mic positioning quite a bit myself, with the help of postings here, and I finally found a sweet spot. On my 4x12 cabinet, I place the mic 10 inches out and in line with the right, outside rim of the speaker cone ( upper right speaker ) and angled to point at the...

    sennheiser!!

I use the same mic for guitar and have also had good luck with it. How did you position it in relation to the speakers ?

    how do these monitors sound

I really like my KRK RoKits. I don't know how they stack up against the Behringers, but you might want to listen to a set, if you haven't already.

OS choices (or ways to deprive Bill of $$)

I've always resisted recording on my PC. Since I deal with computer problems for a living, apparently like a lot of people on this site, the last thing I want to do when I get home is deal with with a bunch of problems caused by a squirrely operating system... that should tick somebody off ;-)...

    the pot problem

I was a little disappointed, but you're right Dragon, this could get interesting too. I have to disagree with the dis on DiMarzio. I've got one of those over-wound, extra-hot, super distortion pickups in the brige postion on one of my guitars and I love it. It gives the signal a kick in pants...

    sound recorder defaults to mono??

Vince, I also use our corporate ISP and didn't want to post my eMail address at work. So, I went out to hotmail.com and set up an external mailbox. It only takes a few minutes and it's FREE !!!! You also won't have to mess with your current mail client, you can access your hotmail account with...

    48k vs. 96k

I don't have anything that goes to 96k, but a friend of mine does. I don't hear any difference at all on the first generation recordings, but his stuff still sounds good at 3rd generation plus. Maybe the 96k has something to do with it.

    Shure KSM32

Does anyone have any experience with the Shure KSM32 ? I'm looking for a decent quality condenser that will be fairly flexible. Mainly for vox and acoustic guitar. I currently have a Shure SM57, a sennheiser MD421, and few that aren't worth mentioning. Will this mic help round out my collection ?

    One man band....

This isn't really a technical suggestion but there is one thing that I do to make things sound more like a band. I record my tracks in exactly the same order that you do, it just seems to make sense. But, I noticed that when I was playing a part on to tape, I played it very differently than I...

    3 dimensional mix ?

When listening to what I would consider to be a very well mixed track, there seems to be more than just a left-right separation between the individual components. There is, at least a perceived, third dimension to the sound that seems to give the instruments vertical space as well as horizontal...

Noise from instruments to Porta 3

The fact that you don't get noise from your drum machine eliminates at least some of the MANY conditions that can cause noise. Since both instruments have the same problem, it's not likely to be a grounding problem in the instruments themselves, although it's possible. My guess would be that...
